what's the point in google edition phones?

what's the point on google edition phones like samsung galaxy s4 and htc one? can't you make vanilla with roms?

Your warranty is unquestionably intact but you get to use stock Android.

I agree you get the stock android experience without the loss of warranty as you have installed a custom rom. However I wonder.....with them being stock android, would you be first with the updates I.e. nexus phones or wait until the manufacturers release it ?

I'm guessing you'd get updates after true Nexus devices but before the manufacturer UI versions of the same phone.
