We’ve been patiently awaiting the HTC Flyer since we first met the 7in tablet at Mobile World Congress in February. The release date has been nigh on impossible to pin down, but it looks like the tablet will finally arrive on June 1. Hopefully.
You can now pre-order the HTC Flyer from Amazon, Expansys, and of course HTC’s own dedicated Flyer store. All three sites have the HTC Flyer priced identically.
The 16GB model with W-Fi will set you back £479.99, while the 32GB model with both Wi-Fi and 3G costs £599.99. Currently Amazon is the only retailer saying June 1; the other two sites aren’t making any promises.
Perhaps crucially, those prices make the HTC Flyer more expensive than the iPad 2. Apple's 16GB Wi-Fi only model is £399, while the 32GB Wi-Fi and 3G variant is £579. HTC’s unique proposition is the Magic Pen, which thankfully won’t cost an additional £47.99.
The ultra-portable HTC Flyer has a 1.5GHz processor and 5MP rear camera. Curiously, it’ll ship with Gingerbread and not tablet-only Honeycomb, though it’ll rock the awesome-looking HTC Sense 3.0 eventually.
It looks good, but we’re not convinced Joe Public will be swayed when he can pick up an iPad 2 cheaper.
