Price cut for Xperia Play

Price cut for Xperia PlayIt’s probably safe to say that the Xperia Play hasn’t made quite the impact Sony Ericsson was hoping for. However, exact sales figures are typically elusive, so it’s not clear just how much of a success – or failure – the "PlayStation Phone" has been to date.

Sales of PSOne games have reportedly been slow, and we’ve further indication that things aren’t going so well with a number of price cuts from online retailers.

The SIM free/PAYG price was around £500 two months ago, but you can now pick up a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play for less than £400. Eek.

At the time of writing, Expansys is sticking to £449.99 (free shipping). Meanwhile, Play.com is offering the Xperia Play for £399.99 (free delivery), and Clove is a tad cheaper on £390 (£7 next working day delivery).

However, Amazon is your best bet at the moment. You can grab a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play for £379.99 via forever_5. Postage is an extra £4.59.

Of course, there’s every chance gamers are holding off for the 5in dual-analogue PlayStation Vita, due for release later this year (possibly). At E3, the UK price was announced at £229 for the Wi-Fi only model, or £279 with 3G.
