PS Vita or iPad?

Looking for something to play games on while I travel or halfheartedly "watch" TV. Torn between a PS Vita and iPad. I realise the PS Vita is technically superior, and cheaper, but games are more expensive, so iPad would be cheaper in the long run (and has lots of free games). Any thoughts?

Damn straight. The news that Jet Set Radio is being released inspired me to crack it open. It'd get a lot more attention if I didn't have to dedicate so much time to smartphone gaming.
Life's so hard, isn't it ;)?

I'd say the games are cheaper on ipad for good reason, they are much more basic than I'd expect from a proper hand held console, that said maybe I'm being generous to the vita as I've not used one. Depends on what sort of games you like to play as well...
ps vita rather more portable tho.

PS Vita is definalty the hardcore gamers choice, the iPad more of a generalist.

The other "option" would be the Xbox surface, that is assuming it actually exist!

I'd definitely say PS Vita if it's primarily for gaming. You could pick up a PS Vita and seven games for the same price as an iPad. The PS Vita also has a healthy collection of PSOne Classics like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII for relative cheapness.

Has yours finally made it out of the box?

As a huge Dynasty Warriors fan (SHUT UP!) i've been borrowing my friends PS Vita to play Dynasty Warriors Next. and a bit of uncharted and i have to say it is just like playing a console game on a small screen with added benefits.

So if you're a hardcore gamer the Vita is where it is at. For general basic games to waste time then the iPad is better. Plus it has more practical uses than the Vita. But at the moment now there are some very good deals on for the Vita (£160 with Vita + 2 new games + memory card) and the games aren't as expensive anymore. Plus like Lewis said there are a lot of PS One games to play.

I know it's not quite right yet but Remote Play in connection with a ps3 looks interesting. The fallout 3 vita video on youtube is rather cool, noticed that game in particular as plowing through it atm on xbox

Mmm, Fallout 3. I just grabbed New Vegas: Ultimate Edition for £15 from Zavvi.
