Can I put the SMS folder on the home screen of my BlackBerry Curve?
Is there any way to move the SMS folder onto my BlackBerry Curve’s home screen?

Yes, move it to the top row of the menu. That row is what you see as shortcuts on the homescreen of your Blackberry Curve.
So, when in the main menu, highlight the messages icon, press option and choose 'move'. Move the icon to the top row.
That way you can move apps, etc to the 'homescreen'
