Well, the HTC One X is out. We do not know that much about the SGSIII yet. In fact, Samsung may launch a flagship called something totally different. The other 2 won't make it to Ireland, so I haven't paid much attention...
I am looking forward to what exactly Samsung will be pulling from the hat.

SpeedyG  Apr. 8, 2012 at 16:35

That's why said what are you waiting for. :p All bar the Samsung phone has been seen in the MWC this year and I know a lot of people on contract are waiting to replace their phones with the SG3. I suspect 3-6 months from now when we've seen them out in the wild by then, The HTC and Samsung phones might not dominate as much as would seem. I expect the ZTE to be cheap enough to enter dual core phone territory.

JanSt / MOD  Apr. 8, 2012 at 16:54

If they improve hardware design, the ZTE may indeed cut into the profits.
I bet a lot of folks wait for the SGSIII before deciding whether HTC have upped their game sufficiently. Of course, if Samsung delay the SGSIII some more, some people will wait for Apple to show the next iPhone.... etc etc...

I'm not a big Android fan, but I have to admit the One S feels like a step-up. It gives off a next-generation vibe. The SGS2 was a stunning power-horse, but to me it felt like the outstanding BEST in a neverteless rather samey crowd.
It seems the new breed is actually more 'evolved'...

HTC had a bad year in sales last year, so they need the One series to make it up this year. The newer hardware and sense software helps give it that feel imo. SG3 will need to come out soon, or samsung could really make a hash of the whole thing.

Samsung Galaxy SIV

You don't like the upcoming 3 Treab? Or you think it doesn't exist?! :p

In all honesty I think there's something fundamentally wrong with the S3 and that's why we haven't seen or heard anything even semi-official.

Whether that's processor, screen, software, battery or production issues (or a combination of the above), I think the S3 is broken and Samsung are struggling to fix it. Just a theory, but it's what I think has really happened.

That could well be, I suppose. Or they have something truly great hidden away?
It is oddly quiet on the "leaks front"... and letting HTC out the gate first while it's getting close to Apple-time, is quite risky. So, yeah, either there is a problem, or they are very very confident of what they have up the sleeve?

matt101101 / MOD  Apr. 8, 2012 at 21:09

Truly great (as in unexpected?), I don't think so. The best the S3 will have is an Exynos 5250 (the Cortex A15 monster) and a 720p SAMOLED+ screen with a beast of a camera...that's all current technology allows, 1080p isn't happening, 400+PPI is economic suicide and technically impossible on a mass scale.

I think the S3 is broken, I don't know in what way, but I think Samsung can't get it right on a mass scale (remember how hard S2s were to get hold of in May 2011?).

popherald claim Samsung decided to NOT release the newest Galaxy before ALL SGSII models received ICS!

Pondlife  Apr. 8, 2012 at 22:10

From what people have said about the official S2 ICS wouldn't surprise me if there's problem with software. You'd expect that they'd have prioritised getting that right over releasing poor one for S2.
Truly great in design and style would be nice, but even an expansion slot would be an easy improvement.

Including the 4565475676586785 US variants...

Samsung have also claimed, worryingly, that the Note is the successor to the S2...it's not looking good for the S3, IMO. As I said the other day, between HTC and Samsung, the first to get their flagship model to market has had the most successful device, irrespective of hardware, in both 2010 and 2011.

TouchWiz ICS on the S2 is sh*t. No other way to put it.

CM9 is lovely, though. Also plays nice the the BT audio streaming the my OH's car, which it never did with TW based ROMs.

2 year contract by the time it ends the sgs4 will be here ;)

SpeedyG  Apr. 8, 2012 at 23:46

So software could kill off the SG3 before it's even hit the streets and on sale?

Samsung's software division really lets themselves down.

Pondlife  Apr. 9, 2012 at 00:32

Well we don't know it's the software..

Is mad that cm9 can be that much better than samsungs on the s2 though

Pondlife  Apr. 9, 2012 at 00:37

If the note is the successor to the S2 then it was first to market...

Well the problems with SG2 upgrade suggests there may be a problem with Touchwiz and ICS interaction.

I'd put money on there being something wrong with the S3 and software would be very near the top of my list, only beaten by problems mass producing the screen.

There's an easy way around that for Samsung...ditch the TW sh*t.

The Note is hardly "next Gen" though...it's got an overclocked Exynos 4210, not exactly cutting edge for one of the world's biggest tech companies.

True but like you said elsewhere the technically inferior one won once before.

No way they will drop touch wiz even if they should.

Mind you even Google have had trouble getting their old phone to use ICS, so Samsung not alone in that.

I think something closer to the truth would be Samsung were either bullsh*tting to sell more Notes or they were bullsh*tting to make the Note sound better as they have no other flagship model anywhere near ready for sale. Either way, I think it's quite clear that consumers and the market don't see the Note as an S2 successor, just a different product line.

The S2 runs ICS just fine, running an Exynos processor. TW is totally useless, I think Samsung would win more hearts and minds without it.
