question on HTC Desire S and Skype.

Can a home, or other, WiFi link be used for this?
Can I Skype PC and iPhone users for free?
How data intensive is to use on internet allowance with phone?

Yes, using Skype on mobile phone is free. Only data charges apply.
Skype for Android does not support video calling. It has not been implemented yet. App itself has a lot of bugs and very high battery usage.
Voice call on Skype is around 50MB per 1 hour of conversation.
Skype works over WiFi.

3 Mobile offers free Skype calling to anywhere except UK numbers. No data use and no charges. There is a special app on 3 website to download and it will work with Desire. No need to top up a SIM.

Thanks you mention Skype is free, only data charges.
If you are connected to free WiFi is it then completely free, or are there still data charges?

Sorry, final question, just so I don't get unexpected charges.
If I was in Spain using a hotel's free WiFi to skype Uk I would incurr no charges? :o)

If it's free wifi, why would you be charged? You may get speed capped if you abuse it but that's the worst that can happen.
