QWERTY-rockin’ Alcatel OT-915 bound for Mobile World Congress

QWERTY-rockin’ Alcatel OT-915 bound for Mobile World CongressJeez, at this rate there’ll be no surprises left for Mobile World Congress at the end of the month. Every second story at the moment concerns a new device tipped to make the trip.

The latest handset to spring a leak ahead of the annual Barcelona conference is the Alcatel OT-915, a decidedly BlackBerry-esque portrait QWERTY effort.

Alcatel might be onto something here with the OT-915. There’s really not a great deal of choice when it comes to QWERTY Android handsets, be they portrait affairs or landscape sliders. It’s also expected to have a sub-£100 price tag.

Alcatel OT-915 specs include a 2.8in display, which is the same as the BlackBerry Bold Touch, but with a significantly lower resolution of 240x320. Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) will take the helm.

Electricpig has confirmed with the French manufacturer that the Alcatel OT-915 will be unleashed on the UK, though an exact release date, price and list of carriers remains elusive at this early stage.

If the Alcatel OT-915 takes your fancy, you might also be interested in the Motorola Pro+ or Motorola Fire. I'm just saying.

How come Android phone makers think that this type of qwerty device can live well with crappy screens? To my knowledge not one front-facing qwerty Android phone has a good screen
