Recommendations for a cheap phone for phoning and texting?

Guys, any recommendations for a cheap phone primarily for phoning and texting? Finally time for my dad to embrace the world of mobile :p
I'm not sure he even realises what phones are capable of, but data/apps etc might be a nice bonus if there's anything good below say (_checks bank balance_) £75?

honestly, i'd have to say go for a basic nokia. If you want something a bit more snazzy, there's also the nokia asha series (for someone new to texting, a qwerty keyboard would probably be a godsend)

I wouldn't bother with the San Fran, to use a smart phone to its full potential you need a data plan, which for someone who isn't a big user of mobile phones is a total waste of money.

I'm with krogo... The Asha series isn't bad at all. They are fast, simple, well-built and there are even some nice apps once he's used to it. Nokia's maps might come in handy and battery life is acceptable.

I mentioned one of those to my Nan and she looked so insulted..

I hate some of those manufacturers who market towards the elderly with a phone like that and then have the cheek to charge £100 plus just because they increased the volume....

But i do agree with the Nokia Asha series which has been suggessted. Also just a simple Nokia like the 1100 would do if he's not fussed about anything else othr than texting and calls. If he is looking for a smartphone experience with a touchscreen and apps etc... then the sanfran is perfect.
