Why would I get rejected for a mobile contract?

Is it because I have a poor credit rating?

Nothing to do with being unemployed, all to do with your credit rating!

More than likely I'm afraid.
If you don't believe you do have a poor credit rating, sign up with one of the credit reference agencies (for free - and cancel after 30 days) and check what your score is. You may be able to get any 'suspect' reasons reversed, improving your score.
Experian (creditexpert) and Equifax provide free trial periods.

A friend of mine applied for a contract, got rejected due to a poor credit rating. However, he called back after one hour and changed his details slightly (yes people, I know what you're thinking and you're are right). The result? Well, lets just say the mounty got his man! (_;)
