I'm confused about resolution versus DPI/PPI.........
Like a screen with a higher resolution could actually have a smaller DPI/PPI if it's on a larger screen???? Which one is most important?

It's a balance, tbh. The iPhone 4/4S has a very high PPI display, but it's so tiny it's no use for watching longer videos or playing games. The HTC Titan (the biggest 480x800 phone I can think of) has a much larger display, but a much lower resolution, so the PPI is a bit pathetic....not that it's actually sold anymore, though.
