Best retention deal ever?

So 2 years back i signed up with O2 for a secondary contract to use in case of emergencies. (basically it was a back up sim) before Ovivo and the like came out.

The deal was £10.50pm for 50 mins/250 texts and a free HTC Desire S which was worth £350 at the time. Total contract cost came to £252 and i was able to sell the phone for £310.

So just now i was talking to O2 and they gave me a free refurbished Sony Xperia T (worth around £300) on £8pm for the same deal i'm currently on. And then with a £50 bill credit which takes the theoretical cost down to £5.90pm which comes to £142 over 2 years.

So i'm happy. Was planning on joining ovivo but can't say no to a free phone, even if it is refurbished. Obviously it's not the best deal ever but i'm happy with the Xperia T (which i might sell anyway) Plus if i cancel the contract now i get VAT off which means i'll have only paid £115 for the phone once i got the £50 back.

Anyone else got any good retention deals?

Craig's beginning to look refurbished, too :p

The T got that unfair treatment, didn't it? Hardly on the shelves, and bam - the Z arrives.

I'm surprised no one ever calls sony out on that. They released the Xperia S, Xperia T and Xperia Z within 12 months and they were all Sony flagship phones. And people think Apple/Samsung are bad.

I guess the reason is because the S and T couldn't compete with the S3 and One X on specs but still...

Yes... the T is like some filler nobody asked for. Not offensive, but not really needed, either. But then: same goes for so many 'flagships' these days. Like Sony were impressed by Nokia's clever launch of the Lumia 900 with Apollo and the 920 on the horizon hahahaha

Back on topic: nope, I don't even think 'we' have retention deals here in Ireland...But I know next to nothing about contracts.

I think retention deals are in every country. But i'm happy with this one.

Yeh, good thing about the T is DC-HSPA+ connectivity and 720p screen. It's still a good phone in todays terms and will still go for £330 brand new. I intend to sell it in the £250 range.
