Retention deals.. what's your worst one???

Im asking as i just had 3 mobile offer me this wonder...

£25 a month for the one plan with the wildfire s... a phone only slightly better than my 2 year old hero... and why did they feel this was a good deal you may ask... as did i...

it was due to it being allowed 3 months early... for that price i can get a samsung galaxy s2...

then they proceeded to tell me how great a capacitive touchscreen is... I HAVE A HERO IT ALREADY IS CAPACITIVE...

anyway anyone got a good story???

Mate, I'd argue the Wildfire S is actually a worse phone than the Hero; that tiny little screen makes it an awful user experience for anyone with average or above sized hands :p.

Anyhow...Galaxy S2 vs. Wildfire S.....I'd be struggling to decide too ;).

I just love the way they were trying to sell it...

its a capacitive screen that has a lead flash (not l-e-d) no a lead flash ;)

matt101101 / MOD  Nov. 21, 2011 at 17:48

I think even the very first Android phone, the G1, had a capacitive touch screen haha :D.

A lead flash, does that poison you when you use it then ;)?

Treab  Nov. 21, 2011 at 17:58

only after continued use ;)

still only 3 months left... then 3 give me a decent phone or i move ;)

3 months is a long time, well in the world of phones anyway. Hopefully they offer you a decent renewal deal in Feb. otherwise just leave, you'll be able to get an S2 or Sensation XE for a bargain price by then.

Treab  Nov. 21, 2011 at 19:04

exactly... my current aim is a galaxy s2... simply due to its combined hardware.. the xe is gorgeous... but htc a music phone with a 1gb hdd really...

matt101101 / MOD  Nov. 21, 2011 at 19:16

Well I can promise you won't be disappointed by an S2 if you do get one. I've only used an original sensation not an XE, but it just didn't seem as...powerful...smooth...I don't really know how to say it, as the S2. Also, 1gb isn't a lot especially considering the S2 and Nexus have 16gb plus the S2 has a micro SD card which will take up to 32gb officially and 64gb unofficially.

Treab  Nov. 21, 2011 at 19:41

yep. even the razr with its built in battery has a micro sd card slot...

and when i played with the s2 in a shop it did feel amazing quick smooth and the camera was as good as alot of older class digital cameras... (not amazing as new ones but very very good none the less)

still the one im currently looking at is 21.50 a month 19.99 upfront with 200 mins unlimited texts and 500mb...

not much but i havent come close to my limits with my current one...

matt101101 / MOD  Nov. 21, 2011 at 19:47

The RAZR is fu*k ugly with that massive bezel and has a PenTile display, eugh...The S2 actually has around half a million more sub-pixels over the 4.3" despite the RAZR's higher resolution qHD display.

There's also the small matter of Moto's update history, which is questionable at best...

The only thing the S2's camera can't compete with compared to a cheaper digital compact camera, is the lack of optical zoom, though that's a problem on every phone, even the famous Nokia [email protected] camera didn't have optical zoom.

That's not a bad price tbh. You'll get it even cheaper (or with higher allowances for the same price), in 3 months time :).

Treab  Nov. 21, 2011 at 19:50

Amen brother... 3 months and im price watching shame its been the sameish price for the last 3 ....

matt101101 / MOD  Nov. 21, 2011 at 19:53

It'll drop after xmas I reckon, especially if Samsung announce an S3 at MWC at the end of Jan/start of Feb. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what you eventually buy to bring this saga to an end ;).

Treab  Nov. 21, 2011 at 19:56

knowing my luck i will end up getting a 12 month sim only deal ;)

matt101101 / MOD  Nov. 21, 2011 at 19:59

And stick with the Hero :p?

Treab  Nov. 21, 2011 at 20:01

nothing wrong with the hero :p

i bet it could survive a conkers fight over your sammy :p

matt101101 / MOD  Nov. 21, 2011 at 20:33

Probably would...apart from the non-toughened glass screen :p, that'd break before the S2's. I have to say though, I wish I'd bought a Hero over the iPhone 3G.

Treab  Nov. 21, 2011 at 20:35

non-toughened??? its got gorilla glass :p

AhmadCentral  Nov. 21, 2011 at 20:36

My worst retention deal was on Three when the guy offered something that was worse than on the site.

Think it was a Nokia 5230 on the one plan for £27pm and no upfront cost. It was £25pm on the site with no upfront cost...

Although admittadly this was before my last month.

Treab  Nov. 21, 2011 at 20:38

rofl ahmad... thats truly shocking lol. three do seem to like selling phones at the same price as the website... without quidco or the like...

matt101101 / MOD  Nov. 21, 2011 at 20:42

Apparently it's not branded "gorilla glass", but it is the same stuff. Only the phone the US calls the Hero, which isn't the same as the G2 Touch that we call the Hero over here, has official gorilla glass.

Ahmad, that's brilliant :p, what did you say to the guy? I think I'd have been to busy laughing to speak ;).

Treab  Nov. 21, 2011 at 20:51

Pah branding :p your probably the wierdos who buys mcvities rich teas... MORRISONS VALUE FTW :D

i do love 3's customer service... never had an issue always willing to help imo. but due to their location its often a hilarious convo read from a script :D like todays was :D

AhmadCentral  Nov. 21, 2011 at 21:22

Yeh it was a terrible deal. tbh i didn't know much about the phone at the time so i just said i'd think about it. Went home on my pc to check the price and was like WTF.

The funny thing is that the guy said that he got rid of the upfront cost for me....??? (Again i think this is because he called before my final month)

During the final month though i managed to get it for £20pm for my mum with some vouchers for comet or something thrown in. Think it was like £50.

Treab  Nov. 21, 2011 at 21:33

Strange vouchers.. only 3 would offer vouchers for 'comet' bhs debenhams tescos etc understandable.... comet... odd..

AhmadCentral  Nov. 21, 2011 at 22:39

i think it was comet, or maybe currys. it was one of the main electronic stores.
