Retina enhanced Apple iPad mini 2 likely only arriving in Q3

Retina enhanced Apple iPad mini 2 likely only arriving in Q3In the world of the smartphone rumour mill, the likes of the Galaxy S4 come and go, but iOS is forever, and today we've a fresh Apple iPad mini rumour to report.

Well, it's more reality check than rumour, as the gist of it is that the Retina-equipped iPad mini 2 is indeed on the way, but will only touch down in Q3.

So says Chinese site CNYes (in Chinese or via Google Translate if you're feeling adventurous). As with all things Apple, though, it's worth bearing in mind that rumours come in all shapes and sizes.

We've already had claims of a March release (that's this month, to state the obvious), others suggesting April will be the month, and that's just from recent memory.

CNYes says Apple plans to ship 55 million iPad minis this year, suggesting demand isn't suffering despite the lack of Retina display quality.

Sounds logical to me, but as always with Apple, we'll just have to add this rumour to the pile until Apple puts us out of our misery. For the record, though, a separate CNET piece is claiming pretty much the same as CNYes but via a different source, so we'll put this one on the top of the pile until persuaded otherwise.

Or suggesting that they are including sales of improved screen version...

Wonder what else they'll change? Surely, a retina screen will require more juice, and although the Mini performs 'adequately' a speedbump would be called for also? Anyhoo... Not a fan... A 12-inch+ iPad - now that I might be interested in.

Well the first was the ipad 2 mini, this will be the ipad 3 mini...

Not convinced we'll get those larger tablets now.

I suspect the iPhone 5s will come with an A7 chip, the iPad mini will come with the same A7 chip and the iPad maxi will get a top of the range A7x chip thats super magical

No, unlikely...
Curious sidenote: focus on 7-8-inchers. Irish schools that switch over to eBooks demand 9.7-inch minimum! Be it eInk or tablet... Since Amazon killed the DX, there aren't many large eInk eReaders - and they are very expensive compared to the multi-purpose tabs.
Wonder what the situation is elsewhere?

That "no unlikely" was @pondlife re larger iPads ;)

I keep having that problem where I reply without using reply button too :)
I would say for text books that size does make most sense, mind you I'd also say they needed to wait for colour eink ones really for text books. Either that or every desk needs it's own socket

True hahaha Add: "I'm outta juice" to "dog ate my homework"... I kinda sorta deal "in books", and the schoolbook sector is rip-off capital. EReaders make sense, but there are practical issues, alright ;)
Colour eInk devices - like the Jetbook - are so fr*gging expensive...

The major Irish schoolbook publisher has featured Galaxy Tab adds on most books for a good year and a half now.

ill be honest, i know of no one with the mini

Dare say the publishers won't exactly be giving away the ebook versions anyway.

Yeah colour eink isn't practical yet.

Wonder how Samsung swung that one..

I had one for 2 weeks.... And I know hundreds were sold in 'our' town of 6000, but I don't know anyone who owns one.

Of my friends the 3 people who have bought iPads since the mini came out have all been mini's, with price being the main deciding factor although one actually thinks the 7.9" screen is the best size as its portable and usuable when gaming and TBH I have to admit the full iPad I have is a little unweildy at times
