Review of the week (super-wordy iPhone 5 edition)

Review of the week (super-wordy iPhone 5 edition)Has it really been less than 72 hours since the iPhone 5 launch? It feels like forever, and in many ways it’s been crazier than freakin’ Mobile World Congress. Since Wednesday evening, we’ve written 13 iPhone 5-related articles, and you’ve blessed us with 300+ (no exaggeration – for serious) Apple-flavoured comments.

Sadly, Apple proved as divisive as ever, and tensions have been running high. Heck, young Matthew has even questioned his passion for smartphones (his beloved Samsung Galaxy S II is gently weeping somewhere). Uhm, is this a bad time to mention I pre-ordered my iPhone 5 last night?

Let’s remember that the iPhone 5 is just a phone, mes amis. We’re all friends here, and we all want the same thing, namely world peace and possibly hotdogs for lunch.

Have a good weekend, one and all. Be safe.

So show of hands, who was surprised he bought one?

Lewis, I assume. For the record, no, I'm not surprised. On the other hand, it'll be a great upgrade from a DHD and fit in well with Lewis' collection of iOS and Mac devices, so is possibly a sensible purchase.

Just for clarification, it's the buying of smartphones I've gone off, not the discussion of them or my general interest in them. I meant I'm happy with my S2 and I'm not really looking for anything else at the moment.

Yeah as Matt said Lewis, seeing as he mentioned it in the article

JanSt / MOD  Sep. 15, 2012 at 14:40

Who is Lewis? huh?

Pondlife  Sep. 15, 2012 at 14:42

nah who is on first

Since we were pretty much on-topic last week:

I just used somebody's Wave 3... and I have one question: why does it feel like a much better device in terms of hardware than all of Samsung's Galaxies glued together?
Also - I didn't know you could theme Touchwiz on Bada... looks miles better.

Anyhow: well done, Lewis.

Samsung saved all their aluminium for the Wave series, it seems :(. They're lovely devices, they just have small development communities and not many apps (and a possibly dead-in-the-water OS).

Shame. And yes, the little dev community is buzzing along quite nicely

I know you're going to rant...do any of the Waves have a working Android port yet?

I was actually very close to ordering the Wave 3 - €180 from Amazon Deutschland...
But now you made me chuckle, and my head cleared. Thanks :p

£145 isn't bad for a Wave 3. Though since you already have an N9 it would be a somewhat pointless purchase :p.

ICS is acceptable, hopefully it'll one day get JB, 60fps improves Android unbelievably.

JanSt / MOD  Sep. 15, 2012 at 17:55

Yeah, though Bada does have a proper Opera MIni, while 'MeeGo' has some sh*tty beta Opera Mobile

SpeedyG  Sep. 15, 2012 at 22:17

Jan and dead Oses huh. Why am I not surprised he likes the Wave 3? *chuckles*

To be fair to him, Jan has always had a soft-spot for Bada (as have I) and expressed these views long before Bada was probably killed off.

Did far better than the billion dollar failure we lovingly called WP7, hell, that joke must be one of the greatest failures in mobile, user per dollar spent, ever.

Pondlife  Sep. 15, 2012 at 23:31

Well as you've pointed out before they did kind of give the Wave away even more than ms did with wp

Only in France, and to be fair, I've never seen a Bada advertisement.

Pondlife  Sep. 15, 2012 at 23:45

Well do you spend much time in France to see the ads?

Damn hard to find bada figures in uk, this told me a lot, thought the French really didn't like ios 'til I saw the Spanish sales figures.

Haha, Symbian is popular in Spain...then again, Spain is pretty 3rd world.

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 16, 2012 at 00:21

I also didn't realise that the average wage in the UK was only £27.5k, I guess that average is dragged down by all the f*cking wasters.
