How do I get rid of the ticks at the top of my screen on the HTC Wildfire?

I downloaded some apps to my new HTC Wildfire. There are some little ticks at the top of the screen now, how do I remove them?

pull down the notification bar (top bar) - there you'll see, ahem, notifications. Click on 'clear'

The ticks indicate that the apps were successfully installed on your new HTC Wildfire. When you're on the home page, slide the screen from top to bottom to see the latest apps installed, as Jan said. Press the clear icon at the top right to clear the session (doesn't delete the apps, they're still installed).

my guess: the camera! It's indicating that you're voice recording - be it with the video camera or the voice recorder. Here's the HTC Wildfire S user guide as a PDF
