RIP OVIVO Mobile

RIP OVIVO MobileTo be honest, we’d often wondered how long OVIVO Mobile could continue with deals that oftentimes seemed too good to be true.

And here we find ourselves face to face with what cynics had been predicting all along, the arguably premature death of one of the most fascinating MVNOs out there. RIP OVIVO Mobile.

The OVIVO proposition was a strange one: pay a one-off fee – yes, one-off – and receive a fairly decent recurring monthly allowance (£15 bagged you 150 minutes, 250 texts and 500MB of data). In turn, customers simply had to endure occasional adverts in their browsers.

Alas, it’s no more, with the Vodafone-riding MVNO announcing on its webpage – quite suddenly – that OVIVO Mobile is closing down tonight.

“Dear OVIVO Customers,” begins the network solemnly. “We are very sad to announce that for reasons beyond our control, OVIVO Mobile is closing down on the evening of Wednesday 19th March 2014.

“We'd like to thank each and every one of you for your support and friendship over the last two years.

"To keep your OVIVO number, just fill out this form, and we’ll send you your PAC code.”

In its dying breath, OVIVO sighed: “We will arrange for your PAC code to arrive as quickly as possible but there is a high demand for this service.” With that, the life support was switched off.

And that’s the end of OVIVO Mobile. Anyone out there affected? The HotUKDeals massive appears to have formed an angry mob on account of the short notice. Needless to say, feel free to let rip below. Alternatively, you might wish instead to share the good times you had with OVIVO; all comments welcome.

Sad news, nearly got burned myself as I was looking into a data sim for my iPad but got distracted yesterday and didn't complete, otherwise that would've been £20 down the drain!

WarriorXIII  Mar. 19, 2014 at 23:01

Ah well, what seemed too good to be true turned out to be. However, having had 4 months service, including texts sent from Oz, for £20 (albeit £12 still on the account) my only complaint is the abruptness of the closure leaving me without a network for several days til I can get connected elsewhere.

Bobdunn  Mar. 19, 2014 at 23:41

Had 2 phones and a data sim with them. Customer service was really good and based in UK so no scripted speil from India. Mine are still getting incoming calls and texts so hope that stays until I port. Probably go back to Giffgaff cos its cheap but it dont beat free. RIP Ovivo, was good whilst it lasted

I had a data sim in my nexus 7 for the last 6 months, then ordered a phone sim 6weeks ago. I has £50 credit in total on both sims. Oh well, live & learn......

Colly27  Mar. 20, 2014 at 00:25

I just bought a sim 2 days ago and was waiting for it to come.
How would i go about getting my money back

helpadmin  Mar. 20, 2014 at 00:45

@colly27 i would contact the card provider you used to pay with and ask for a 'charge back'

matthewleigh23  Mar. 20, 2014 at 03:30

What i would suggest is you contact your bank or paypal which ever you paid with. Explain the situation to them telling them they have just closed and never even got to use any of it. Could always tell them you class it as you feel like you have been frauded and want your money back as i never received a service.

I just got data sim 2 days back. I paid through paypal and raised claim in Paypal. Need to wait and see

TedBundy  Mar. 20, 2014 at 07:14

Signed my daughter up 12 months ago when the SIM was £10. Bought a data sim for £15 in September, got good value out of both of those. My wife signed up in October for £20, she has used it a lot but is now a bit stuck until they eventually send her PAC number. Really disappointed at the way the company went down leaving people stranded without service but I guess they were fighting to save the company up to the end. Just hope the PAC comes through soon. Probably switch the wife to Asda £5 deal and daughter to 3 3-2-1 PAYG.

If you paid by credit card then you can contact them and claim the money back

If purchased with a credit card, visa debit card or paypal, you can submit a claim to get the money back as the service/product was not sent to you. (And yes I thought it was just credit cards that were protected, but no visa offer the same protection to debit cards voluntarily too)

This is the ONLY ovivo webpage that they have left open. All others have been shut down.

I requested my PAC code yesterday evening, still waiting for it to arrive.
Moving over to Three PAYG.

14 months of zero phone bills, thanks Ovivo, I'll miss you to the tune of £7:50 a month :(

exuser  Mar. 20, 2014 at 15:54

Was with them nearly 2 year. Only problem now is the PAC code, as my email address that I used on there site is no longer available to me.
