cannot root the htc one x!

no matter how many guides i have tried they all fail.

in DOS it just sticks at waiting for device. tried running cmr from the phone but it fails.

Phone is unlocked to any network and boot-loader is also unlocked.

tried towelroot?

That should work.

shuwaz  Jul. 15, 2014 at 22:48

no it failed.

used the method on this link here but it failed and now the phone wont go past the initial htc startup screen. I can get into fastboot but nothing else.

Is that a US One X?

shuwaz  Jul. 16, 2014 at 00:38

No its a UK handset on Orange before I unlocked it.

At what point did it fail?
Installing the insecure boot image?

shuwaz  Jul. 16, 2014 at 19:42

after Installing the insecure boot image (which suggest it was a bad/wrong image).

as it stands if you power on the phone it breifly shows the HTC start-up screen then goes into CM Recovery. I've pretty much tried every option in there but it makes no difference.

I can still get into Fastboot (i.e. by holding vol down + power).

As you can still boot into CM recovery, try installing a pre-rooted ROM
like this:

Since messing with it last night I managed to remove CMR. so now I only have access to fastboot.

I can't get access to the phone so I can't copy any ROM images to it. CMR lets you install a zip file from sd csrd but the HOX doesn't have an ad card.

I've tried two RUU for my phone (I.e. Orange UK) but they both failed as incompatible. I have one left to try but I'm not hopeful. ..

I'd happily help if i could get my hands on the phone as I'm **** at trying to help remotely.
If you've got fastboot then there is hope :)

In adb you can access fastboot to flash a new recovery
e.g. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Yes I'm going to try that when I get home...

mrew42  Jul. 17, 2014 at 14:19

Try the HTC One toolkit too. It can often help with drivers, sequence of events etc and allows you to install recovery from fastboot (and downloads it for you too)

does the bootloader need o be unlocked?

mrew42  Jul. 17, 2014 at 16:42

Yes indeed.
If your softbricked like that chances are you'll need to do a fresh install of whatever rom you want and an unlocked bootloader is the only way to allow that,

Since it's not actually rooted, just f*cked, can't you try sending it off to HTC for repair?

shuwaz  Jul. 19, 2014 at 01:38

thanks to mrew42 i now have CMR working, i just cant seem to get any ROM to work. Always takes me back to the white HTC screen.

The latest... erm, feature I've noticed since trying today is that i cant charge the phone whilst its off. as soon as i plug in a charger it just powers on the phone.

CTPAHHIK  Jul. 22, 2014 at 08:57

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img - Flashes recovery
fastboot flash boot boot.img - flashes kernel

Did you flash different kernel? You shouldn't need ROM or recovery to charge phone. It's all in kernel, which could be wrong and messing everything up. With wrong kernel no ROM will boot - you will be in boot limbo.

Got it sorted in the end, thanks to help from my mate Naz!

Was it worth it? :p

Was it worth it? :p

The experience was and definitely the lesson (no matter how good you are at things, never rush and think 'yeah I've done it all before, piece of cake!'). Besides it's been a good testing period and will actually prove useful back at work in the old IT department!
