Samsung's rugged take on the Galaxy S4 will launch in July and will be known as the S4 Active, while the company is also preparing an 8in Galaxy tablet to launch in June.
So says the Wall Street Journal, quoting “a person familiar with the matter” who adds that the Galaxy S4 Active name is a “tentative” title.
Aside from its supposed existence and claimed launch date we're not given any details on the tablet at all, so we'll have to wait and see. But with a likely iPad mini 2 on its way in the Autumn, this could be a significant tablet release for Samsung.
As for the Galaxy S4 Active, we get a little more to go on – most significantly that the tough-guy S4 will be designed to “maintain the look and feel” of the mainstream Galaxy S4 despite its water- and dust-proofing, which answers one of the key questions we had when musing over the prospect a couple of days ago.
Samsung's rationale behind the Galaxy S4 Active, we're told, is that it's aiming for more large-scale corporate and government contracts, and by offering a high-end device able to withstand tough operating environments it'll strengthen its hand in that regard.
