S5 to S5 Prime upgrade

Do you think Samsung will allow early adopters of the Galaxy S5 to upgrade to an S5 Prime somehow? Releasing a newer model two months later is surely controversial?

That is never going to happen, ever. Firstly because it sounds like the S5 Prime won't be produced in the same quantity as the S5 due to production limitations so there wouldn't be enough to go around.
Second because you're always risking a bigger/better phone being 1 month away no matter when you buy, it's a blessing and curse of the extremely competitive mobile market.

Samsung has done several variations on their last few flagship phones (With the S2 LTE and S3 active and S4 with Snapdragon 800 etc.) and never offered an upgrade option. So even though the gap between S5/ S5prime is much larger than any variations in the past, I HIGHLY doubt they'll open the floodgates for upgrades now. Not to mention the cell carrier nightmare that would be with all the existing contracts and subsidized phones etc.

Doubt it... For no particular reason.

Haha, why would they? You pay your money, you make your choice.

Seriously, hell will freeze over before Samsung offer all S5 early adopters a free S5 Prime (if such a thing is ever released).
