Is it safe to install iOS 6.1?
Anyone updated to iOS 6.1? Is it safe, or will my iPhone 5 explode?

Ahem??? You talking about that weird lady who claimed her iPhone 5 liquified?
Nope, it's safe. I detected nothing new (a lot of under-the-hood security fixes), but no disadvantages, either. It's safe, and later today you will be able to jailbreak, also.
If you intend to jailbreak, update via iTunes - not over-the-air

Find it weird that it matters how you update, suggests that something isn't quite right

The main reason that you need to stay away from Jailbreaking your iDevice while using the OTA update is that your SHSH blobs won’t be the same as a regular update through iTunes and will complicate things later when you need to downgrade or keep apps relevant through Cydia.

In other words: it's not totally relevant - I never managed to easily and flawlessly downgrade/restore a jailbreaked iDevice.
