Samsung ATIV S release date falls back to December

Samsung ATIV S release date falls back to DecemberThis whole Windows Phone 8 launch could’ve been a heck of a lot smoother, eh? As you maniacs have mentioned in the comments, the release of the Samsung ATIV S has seemingly been delayed.

We’ve heard whispers from various retailers about a possible Samsung ATIV S delay, and now we appear to have official confirmation from the South Koreans.

The Samsung ATIV S is one of five Windows Phone 8 launch(ish) handsets, and it was expected to land shortly after October’s Windows Phone 8 bash.

However, over at Handtec, they’re now expecting the Samsung ATIV S in the week commencing December 10. Clove concurs with that date, adding: “First stock delayed”.

TechRadar reached out to Samsung, and a spokesperson confirmed: "The launch of Samsung Ativ S in the UK is scheduled in December. We will be bringing our customers a unique and best-in-class Windows Phone 8 experience."

It’s a bit of a muddle across the Windows Phone 8 board, with the unofficial flagship Nokia Lumia 920 being exclusive to Phones 4u and EE.

Meanwhile, looking at Clove again, the blue HTC 8S launches on November 23, but the red and black are still TBC. As for the HTC 8X, the blue units are sold out while the release date for red units is unconfirmed.

On Expansys, they have plenty of the HTC 8X in black, however the yellow and red are on pre-order only, and blue units are "available on request".

Well, that's all nice and clear.

Weird as it's seemingly the phone with least physical changes from an existing model, guess wp8 is causing them some problems..
Or could be that selling so many s3 that they can't divert some of the parts for it...

How hard can it be to flash a different OS to a Galaxy S3?

matt101101 / MOD  Nov. 14, 2012 at 14:20

Oh...and stick a Windows logo on the home button.

Also slightly annoying is the fact the P4U still don't have the yellow Lumia 920.

It's a decent argument (under the SOGA) why 3 years is a reasonable amount of time for a phone to last (though I guess it'd have to be a model sold both here and in Canada).

What kind of idiot would sign a 3 year contract? Just think how sh*t 3 year old phones are nowadays. You could quite easily still have an HTC Hero or iPhone 3G...

Yes, also: phones with sealed-in batteries.... assuming the average promise of 400 charge cycle holds true, you'll need a new battery in a year, a year and a half...

Hey, you could have a Palm Pre 2... no more webOS updates, no more Twitter apps; heck, hardly anymore new apps anymore LOL

Signing the three year contract just keeps you with the company for three years, you can upgrade your phone after like 6 months for cheap if you wanted.

Balls, like my Dell Venue Pro wait all over again :(

Don't despair... Vodafone Ireland still have the Lumia 900 for a mere €499 LOL http://shop.vodafone.ie/shop/phones-and-plans/phones/pay-as-you-go/phone-details/nokia-lumia-900

Archduke Franz  Nov. 14, 2012 at 21:33

Haha, I think my Ativ S savings fund might be going on a Surface. To be honest, I think I'd miss the Venue Pro physical keyboard even though it's a two year old phone.

Why would you sign up for 3 years? You're going to get ripped off.

Aren't rim canadian, maybe that's why they don't like updating their phones often...

ITISLJC  Nov. 14, 2012 at 22:13

The Canadian contracts are offered in one year, 2 year, and 3 year. CRTC regulate communications companies in Canada. Canadians pay the highest fees on the planet. The joy of government protected monopolistic corporate enterprise. But then most Canadians are afraid to tell their providers that they'll change companies in order to get lower prices. They'll wake up some dazzzzzzzzzzzz...Oh sorry was I snoring.
