It’s been mostly doom and gloom for Samsung of late, with dwindling global market share, a thoroughly uninspiring Galaxy S5, and everything Apple touches turning to gold.
But there are signs that the glass and metal Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are about to pay off, with a record 20 million pre-orders in the bag already.
The Korea Times claims it spoke to a “top executive” of Samsung in the wake of the Galaxy S6 launch, who “wished to remain unidentified due to confidentiality”.
Anonymous Joe whispers: "Samsung received some 20 million pre-orders for the S6 and S6 Edge _ 15 million of S6 and five million of the S6 Edge from mobile carriers, worldwide. This is the record.”
Meanwhile, CEO JK Shin was happy to go on record as saying: "To be honest, pre-orders of the two Galaxy variants from our major clients are really huge.”
Samsung is used to shipping 10 million units of its latest flagship in the first 30 days or so, so we're pretty much guaranteed a record-breaking opening month.
Of course, how many of those pre-orders/shipments turn into consumer sales is another question entirely.
Interestingly, Samsung Galaxy S6 price is reiterated at €700 for the 32GB Galaxy S6, with the S6 edge carrying a €150 premium.
