The results of this year’s GSMA Mobile Awards are in, and the winners have been ably announced by none other than comedian-slash-songwriter and probable genius, Tim Minchin.
Samsung took the top honours this year, stealing the Best Smartphone crown from unashamed Mobile World Congress snubbers, Apple.
The Best Smartphone was, of course, the Samsung Galaxy S II. No mention of the HTC ChaCha, surprisingly. Last year’s winner was the iPhone 4, which received an arguably humble upgrade to 4S last October.
Apple consoled itself with a Best Mobile Tablet trophy for the iPad 2. Not too much competition in that field though.
Samsung also scooped Best Manufacturer, which went to HTC this time last year. To be fair, the last 12 months from HTC haven’t been great.
Rovio scopped Best Mobile App for Consumers with – what else? – Angry Birds Rio, while WhatsApp picked up Best Overall Mobile App.
