How many times have we written about the various patent-related legal battles between Apple and Samsung (and Apple and Nokia, and Apple and Motorola, and Microsoft and HTC…)? About two million times, you say? Thought so.
In this latest story, Samsung insists that it’ll fight Apple to the bloody death. Man, those two really don’t like each other, eh?
Following reports of Apple offering a cross-licensing deal (said to range from $5 to $15 per device), Shin Jong-kyun, head of Samsung’s telecoms division, emerged from a meeting of the bigwigs and screamed: “No compromise!” in the face of The Korea Times.
I’m reminded of that great quote from Steve Jobs’ biography: "Our lawsuit is saying, 'Google you f***ing ripped off the iPhone, wholesale ripped us off.’ I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong.
“I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."
Shin Jong-kyun was admittedly a little more concise with his outburst.
Samsung’s budget for the Patent Wars was originally thought to be $200 million, but “sources familiar with the matter” now put that figure at $260 million. How’s about investing that money in R&D instead, chaps?
