Why does my Samsung Galaxy Ace keep switching off?

I've had the Samsung Galaxy Ace for about a week now. SOmetimes I go to make a call and find that it has completely turned itself off. I hold in the power button for like 10 seconds and it comes back on. What should I DO?

Sounds like a lemon to me. The problem is that you will need to be able to replicate the fault - and as you describe it it's a bit random.
Do you have loads of apps running? Accounts syncing in the background? That could crash it...
Lastly, and sorry if that sounds stupid: are you sure it's really turning itself OFF? or is it just going to 'sleep'? Automatic screen off? 10 secs is awfully quick for a smartphone to boot up.

I have exactly the same problem.Can't replicate the problem and does it when very little running on phone. Do have sych on. It is really turning itself off and really takes 10sec to boot up

Did that happen straight away? Or was the phone initially okay? Maybe a factory reset can resolve the issue? It's frustrating when errors are so occuring so randomly :(

yep...mine turns itself off as well...its a **** if i have to factory reset coz it loses all the apps and all my phone entries..grrrrrrr

Do your networks have support forums? I'd nag the hell out of them - link to this page to show your not alone...
O2 and Vodafone Ireland are quite 'flexible' when you call them out online... Those online helpers are more 'visible' than the anonymous 'drones' in customer care...

Mines does it too. Im with virgin but it only switches off when i'm at my parents house.

I'm on Virgin and had the same problem with my new samsung galaxy Ace handset. I went instore and they advised me to do a complete factory reset and come back if the problem continued. I did this and havn't had the same problem sinse (about 1 week sinse I reset it).

Me too got in touch with virgin and they sent me a new handset on sat , two days later same problem

my samsung galaxy ace switches itself off too and you have to take the battery out and put it back again to turn it on. bad phone! regrets all over

I'm having this same problem - it turns itself off for no apparent reason. The first time I took the battery out and put in back in again and it turned on fine but then couldn't make or receive calls. I repeated this process and also took out and replaced the sim and it worked fine. The problem is rare and random - has happened about 3 times in a month or more. I'd be interested if anyone's managed to solve this!

i have a samsung galaxy mini which had the same problem i attached it to my computer and went thru the updates and now it seems ok.

same here! The phone turns itself down without a warning or anything. I don't know what to do... i took it to the store for repair, but still the same. What can we do about this? No "special programs" installed, just ordinary things like gmail, facebook, news reader and a few known games are installed in the device.

I am having the same problem I am with T-Moble. I took back the first one, thinking it was just that phone, I got a new one and now it is doing the same thing. I would really like to know if there is a fix to this problem. I love the phone just dont like the problems its having. I was not running any Apps when the phone turns off.

is bad real bad same goes to me beside when you plug in your USB you cant even type a sms to anyone when you charging using USB the phone will auto type wording itself Is horrible

I've just sent mine off for repair for the same problems aparently its the first they had back but that has to be a load of ****. I tried updating but im on the lastest firmware so ill see what the verdict is when i get it back in a week 'ish'.

I've the same problem, three times so far today.

All these ideas like turn off wifi and not use wifi again is daft. The phone isn't working, take it back.

i have the same problem first phone got replaced now second fone is doing o2 sent it away for repair came back saying fault was fixed and the firmware and other software been updated but now its worse

I will tell you what i did to fix the problem. I am not suggesting this to anyone but what i did was i updated my firmware to 2.3.4 the offical unoffical update. since i have done that i have not had any problems with my phone. Again and i stress this i am not suggesting doing this but it was a fix to my phone.

Got my phone back from the repair and.... its turns off still. This will drive me up the wall for the next 2 years oh joy.

my first samsung ace did this in may, took it back and persuaded the shop to replace it and it does exactly the same - turns off randomly, few times a day sometimes then can go days where it's fine. also vibrates randomly, anybody else's do this??
its stupid how such an up to date phone cannot be relied on!!

Well, as some people suggested, I've switched off synching and that seems to fix it. Every time I switch synching back on the problem recurs! Not such a smart smartphone after all! I'm with Virgin and they suggested a factory reset - haven't done that yet as I presume I need to get all photos and music off. I'm going to contact Samsung as surely it their product failing to perform as expected!? Although they'll probably blame the apps...
