Why does my Samsung Galaxy Ace keep switching off?

I've had the Samsung Galaxy Ace for about a week now. SOmetimes I go to make a call and find that it has completely turned itself off. I hold in the power button for like 10 seconds and it comes back on. What should I DO?

[Mod edit:

"If your Galaxy Ace suffers from this problem do not bother downgrading the firmware to KB1, or setting the WiFi Sleep Policy to "Never" or trying some other fix. The problem affects only a small number of Samsung Galaxy Ace handsets, and if you have the Sleep of Death problem your phone is defective. Have the unit replaced since the problem does not affect all Samsung Galaxy Ace units and is not a Google Android problem."

my first samsung ace did this in may, took it back and persuaded the shop to replace it and it does exactly the same - turns off randomly, few times a day sometimes then can go days where it's fine. also vibrates randomly, anybody else's do this??
its stupid how such an up to date phone cannot be relied on!!

Mine does this as well. It usually does it when its running low, but at the monment it vibrates constantly for around 5 mins then turns itself off. Piece of c**p tbh.

Hi everybody, I've just bought an Ace some times back and as all of ya are describing in this thread there's a problem with it restarting for no apparent reason. I've uninstalled all the previous application from it and I'm now investigating what solution is the best. I'll keep you up to date if ever I find something useful. I haven't tried Load Monitor because before the phone worked well without that app installed so why installing it. That's my first smartphone and i very appreciate it..for now.

My Ace would crash w/o warning and leave it to me to discover it had been off for hours. Battery out the back reboot hassle at least every three days average. Samsung official site is appalling for the leading brand of Android in the world. It doesn't even read like there is a native English speaker onboard. Stange. Anyhow, finally I am on day three of installing Android v 2.3.5 via Kies (Windows XP). (Kies would not work on my brand new Mac. At least not in the most important aspect of recognizing my handset. Is this Mac f--ing with Samsung over Ace design ripoff?) So far so good. Not going to be happy til it goes for at least a month without incident...

Piimple, read all the above...it seems Samsung do not help, and there is no ONE solution that works for all. Sell the Ace, return it... :(

Yes, I noticed that some users have gone through multiple Aces - all with similar issues. Lets hope your new one's from a newer batch...

i got mine from vodafone in october 2011, it has recently just started rebooting itself, maybe does it six or seven times and then nothing for days then does it again. i use samsung kies and updated the software, made no difference, so now i have sent it for repair, otherwise its a great phone

You're right. They should know. A friends runs a Vodafone (Irel) franchise, and he's kind of forced to stock the Ace, but he's telling folks to stay clear ;)

i have had a problem with my samsung galaxy ace where by it would shut down every time i plugged my charger in. After reading a few comments on here i turned off wifi, bluetooth etc and it seems to have worked.

jim12344  Mar. 31, 2012 at 14:56

I used to have this problem and I fixed it not by turning anything off but by using the Samsung Kies software to update my phones firmware. I no longer have this issue and haven't for the last few months.

(please note: updating the firmware will NOT erase any information from you phone)

ituser  Apr. 4, 2012 at 05:46

jim12344, may i know what "information" that u mean? because as i know updating firmware will erase all application (download from google play store) and some memo, sms, phone contact and etc. I will update my firmware if really NOT erase all data ^.^

Unbelievable to read that so many people are having the same problem as me with my Samsung mini galaxy, I thought it was my phone or network provider. It is so frustrating having to reboot the phone everytime by taking the battery out - lucky I am off work today otherwise I would of been late due to the phone switching itself off again overnight. I am going to try switching wii fii off and see if that works. I have never had a samsung phone before and am not impressed with it. Will let you know if the Wii fii off works.

I didn't put any apps on my Samsung Galaxy Ace cos basically I just want to text and call. But it blanked out from day one. Today the battery ran down completely and after fully charging it - nothing. No display on the phone at all. Taking it back to the store tomorrow and I'll let you know what happens. Thanks so much for this Sleep Of Death information. I suspect they will pretend that they have not encountered this problem before. To which the only proper reply must be "Google Samsung Galaxy Ace problems (why does my phone keep turning off)". I'll let you know what happens, thanks again guys!

I've already got one comment on here. I complained to virgin and included a link to this thread. The response was pathetic. The combination of this terrible phone and a network provider with dense staff and no common sense is the biggest nightmare when tied into a contract. Will never touch virgin mobile or samsung again once I'm out of this.

My samsung galaxy ACE is automatically refreshing sim data. During that i cant able to continue sms or call. I have to wait for 10 to 15 min for continue my call or to do sms. This problem is continue even after doing factory reset. Can anybody suggest me the solution? Can i fix this problem myself by changing some settings?

rayrayrayray  Apr. 10, 2012 at 19:12

Well I said I'd get back to you after visiting the shop.
I marched in there...
Turned out that I was pressing the wrong button.
I'll get my coat...

webj444  Apr. 22, 2012 at 15:33

Mine dose this to but i can not return it because i brought it of the internet. It is the most painful thing and it only happens when the phone is nearly flat or charging? :(

nitika100  May. 8, 2012 at 16:19

I am using Samsung Ace handset since a week. Whenever I am using net on my phone(browsing), and someone tries to call me at that time, my phone goes switch off...
Is it a handset problem??

robbiehking  May. 9, 2012 at 17:02

i have just got a galaxy ace on contract from 3, had it a week now, and no probs whatsoever, however, a friend of mine had hers from o2 on p a y g, and within a day it started shutting down randomly, i'm just wondering if it's somthing to do with the different networks ?

I have mine on 3 Pay as you go and i have had no probs at all except for a silly amount of crashes whilst using phone just after booting up.
