We first met the rugged Samsung Galaxy Xcover back in August. It’s been all quiet on the Xcover front since then, but now – all of a sudden – we’re told to xpect the smartphone soon (see what I did there?).
Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover appears to have been renamed Samsung Galaxy Extreme. In any case, online retailer Handtec reckons it could be here in a matter of days. Xciting.
“Stock Arriving End of November 2011,” says Handtec in bold blue lettering. Well, considering we’re on the 24th now, it’s probably fair to translate to: “within the next week”. Good stuff.
The Samsung Galaxy Extreme is essentially Sammie’s answer to the rugged Motorola Defy, which means it laughs in the face of water and dust. Specifically, it can survive in 1m of water for up to 30 minutes.
In terms of specs, the Samsung Galaxy Extreme delivers a 3.65in display with anti-scratch Gorilla glass, an 800MHz processor, a 3.2MP camera and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) in the captain’s chair.
“We’ve designed the Samsung Galaxy Xcover especially for those consumers who need all the functionalities of a smartphone that can stand up to demanding lifestyles,” says Simon Stanford, MD of Samsung Mobile UK and Ireland.
“By combining the best of our social features together with a strong, airtight chassis makes this smartphone resistant to dust and water damage without compromising on the design.”
Handtec has the Samsung Galaxy Extreme for the fairly reasonable price of £224.39.
