Samsung Galaxy Gear support for Galaxy S4, Note 2, S3 inbound

Samsung Galaxy Gear support for Galaxy S4, Note 2, S3 inboundThe Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch has more than its fair share of problems, not least that it’s only compatible with the spanking new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2014 Edition. Way to limit your potential customer base.

But for those Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 users desperate to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Gear (ahem), there’s good news, with support officially on its way.

That was pretty much the word during the original Samsung Galaxy Gear launch – that support for further Galaxy devices would follow in due course, but the notion was supposedly reiterated at a further launch event (and in turn reiterated by CNET). ETA? By year's end.

The issue is that the Samsung Galaxy Gear isn’t actually a standalone device per se, instead serving as a “companion device” to your larger Galaxy smartphone or tablet, which again means either the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy Note 2014 Edition for now.

The reaction from the industry was a fairly unanimous “meh”, and even Samsung has acknowledged that the Galaxy Gear lacks something special. Y’know, just in case there was any question about whether or not you should buy one.

Meanwhile, Apple is kicking back, taking stock of all the many things Samsung has gotten wrong while it beavers away on the iWatch.

Some reckon the iWatch will popularise the smartwatch the way the iPad did tablets, while others remain cynical.

I keep thinking if only my phone had a smaller, lower resolution screen it'd make a touch screen device easier to control and more useful. and it's an added bonus that if people near me could hear both sides of my phone conversations I could save loads of time explaining myself to others.
