Will the Samsung Galaxy S be getting ICS?

Does anyone know if they've announced anything yet?

Afaik, Google said at I/O that "most” devices that can run Gingerbread, will be able to handle ICS***. Cyanogenmod tweakers claim additionally that 256 MB RAM are a most - which really narrows it down :p

***says little about extra bloat such as TouchWiz, Sense etc...

Not as far as I know. It will also depend on whether your SGS is network branded etc etc... If the Gingerbread update fiasco is anything to go by, it could become 'interesting'... ahem, frustrating.

No its an unbranded phone so I've got some hope of Samsung bringing it out?

I would think so. The SGS has been a massive hit, and specswise I don't see a problem. There'd be a massive backlash, if Samsung left out the SGS.

Jan, by any chance, do you happen to know what the minimum system reqs. are for ICS? You'd answer my, non-work, "question of the week", if you did :p...

Cheers mate. Sorry to keep asking questions (at least they're relevant, for once), but do you know what kinda internal memory is going to be needed...because 256mb of ram and I assume 600mhz of processing power are well within the range of the original Desire etc.

I agree about TouchWiz and Sense, I use launcher pro, even on an S2 :/.

What's the lowest powered 2.3 phone, Wildfire S?

Not sure about the lowest Gingerbreader... The Acer Liquid MT just got GB...it's pretty basic and handles it quite nicely.

That's what, 800mhz and 512mb RAM? I know they're crude, uneducated ways of measuring power, but without complicated chipset efficiency figures, it's the best we can realistically do. I reckon (in my entirely evidence-less opinion), that it'll be 1ghz 512mb RAM and being launched in 2011, will be the base level for ICS...

matt, I reckon you're right. The 256 MB RAM figure seems random.
I wonder how it'll compare bloatwise?
Having just played with a Symbian Belle device, it's incredible how very improved Belle is, while being the 'lightest' Symbian ever. The X7 on Anna is (mostly) pretty fast, but the 701 is almost up there with newer Android devices. I hope it doesn't get too heavy.
