Samsung Galaxy S III benchmarks: it's dead fast

Samsung Galaxy S III benchmarks: it's dead fastPhew, it’s Samsung Galaxy S III mania, man. We’ve had the Samsung Galaxy S III launch event, a range of Samsung Galaxy S III accessories, and a rambling Samsung Galaxy S III reaction from yours truly.

Now it’s time to take a look at some spanking new Samsung Galaxy S III benchmark results. It’s impressive stuff, Jeeves.

The folks at Anandtech have run a series of tests on the Samsung Galaxy S III, and it pretty much beats everything else hands down.

When it comes to browsing speeds, the Samsung Galaxy S III pips the likes of the HTC One X (international and AT&T) and the trusty Samsung Galaxy S II. Indeed, performance has been described as “desktop-like”.

As for graphics processing, it’s described as “insanely fast”. The Samsung Galaxy S III’s ARM Mali-400 GPU (tipped to be clocked around 400MHz) kicks several shades of bum, topping even the PowerVR GPU found in the iPhone 4S.

Impressive stuff, no doubt. But does what’s inside negate the Samsung Galaxy S III's cheap plastic exterior and questionable colour offerings? And there's power consumption to consider too. Hmm.

Hmmmm....Exynos power... *dribble*

If only there was a black version :(. The white one is too gay for me, the blue one's just f*ck ugly. Btw, Lewis, you quoting me saying the white S3 looks too gay for my use, got me called a homophobe, thought you might like to know :p. It's nearly twice as fast as an iPhone 4S, though...that's a lot of grunt.

PenTile and white plastic vs the most powerful smartphone on the planet with likely decent battery life...decisions, decisions...

you are a homophobe ;)

matt, you'll put it in a case anyways...

matt, you'll put it in a case anyways...
My phones never go in cases, they're covered by my house insurance. Though...A nice case would cover the horrid, shiny, white back of an S3...I considered a leather flip case for the S2, 'cos I think they look nice and protect the screen. A black one of those would help an S3 to "man up" a bit.

Yeah, I go on witch hunts too.

but wouldn't work... the battery would die v. v. quickly... as something will be looking at the screen ;)

Very quick. But how long will last playing a decent 3D game like NFS?

Guys and girls, do you all use screen protectors on your phones btw?

No, I use my phone with no protection. I've had my S2 just over a year and there are a few tiny hairline scratches on the screen (they're so small that they're only visible in certain lights at certain angles).

Oh, and as for 3D gaming, that'll kill any phone's battery quickly. Smartphones (in general) can play 3D games as opposed to them being designed to play them for extended periods, like the PS Vita is.

Yeah, I saw that. I think you made it abundantly clear that you hate gays, women and giraffes in equal measure ;)

Would that have been there if you used one or had a better case btw? I'd thought Gorilla Glass based phones would be tougher and a must I guess.

I say so because that'll be the few apps that can make the processor and GPU do decent amount of work. Granted you need to be near a plug point but I doubt the SG3 will be any different even if the game will look gorgeous on that screen.

That's fantastic, where did you make it? Also, can you please link me to a full page version of it? It seems Mobot's picture size limit has struck again :p.

Oh, and no, it was just my crappy punctuation ;).

On a relevant note, I just ran the benchmark that's quoted in the article on my pimped up S2 and I got a score of 151,046. Only 10,000 behind the SGS3...Samsung have come a long way in over a year, evidently.

How pimped is your phone?

Full run down please matt.

matt101101 / MOD  May. 5, 2012 at 01:25

CM9 ROM
Siyah Kernel to allow OC'ing
CPU OC'd to 1.6ghz (the max an S2 is stable at)
GPU OC'd to 400mhz (making it exactly the same GPU as the S3).
Minimum GPU frequency upped to 200mhz to smooth things over even more in the UI.

matt101101 / MOD  May. 5, 2012 at 01:39

I've just closed all my background apps and run the test again; 164,302...3,000 more than the S3...Looks like the GPU is the same and even Android's own browser can't deal with 4 cores.

Pondlife  May. 5, 2012 at 19:21

yeah but when you pimp that one...

matt101101 / MOD  May. 6, 2012 at 23:54

They've already OC'd both the CPU and GPU from the factory. I guess it really depends how much higher clock speed the new 32nm process allows for, bearing in mind that it's already running at 1.4ghz and 400mhz, fully OC'd the S2 can only manage another 200mhz on the CPU and nothing more on the GPU. Here's to hoping the 32nm process allows for much higher clock speeds.

i dont care about dual core or quad core , i want high speed internet on a phone. feels like dial up some times, i think, cant remember exactly what dial up was like but you get my drift?

Well, under some circumstances, more RAM and faster processors improve browser speeds, but I'll do something horrible now: I'll say, "I HATE the Android stock browser. And I'm not impressed with a single 3rd party browser for Android, either, except for UCWeb 8.2 and up. It's crap in many ways, but incredibly fast even on 2G."! Even Opera's mobile browsers are inferior on Android compared to Symbian and iOS (and even BB) versions. Unstable, bugridden...
And don't get me started on "ooh, but it has Flash"...

Now, where were we...?
