Samsung Galaxy S III launching in London on May 3

Samsung Galaxy S III launching in London on May 3Yes, the speculation is finally over: Samsung has finally confirmed a launch date for its next big Galaxy superstar, with Dutch site Tweakers.net revealing that the grand launch will take place in London on May 3.

We choose our words carefully, because the invite doesn't actually mention “S III” (or S3, for that matter) anywhere at all, leading us to wonder: does Samsung have a name change in mind?

Potential Samsung Galaxy S III launch dates have been coming thick and fast practically since Eldar Murtazin made the frankly mental prediction of autumn last year.

But each fresh hope has been raised, and dashed, in turn, and we're now into the second half of April, still with no Galaxy S III. But we do now finally have some news.

The invite in question contains the usual Samsung Mobile Unpacked branding, but beyond that simply states “come and meet the next Galaxy”. Now obviously the Galaxy S III is a big enough deal that Samsung doesn't have to say more than that, but there is another possibility: that Sammy could have decided to go with a different name altogether.

We'll find out soon enough, it seems.

One last word for now: we've jumped on this fairly quickly, so at this stage we've only got the single report of a single website (a Dutch site, no less) having received an invite. We're assuming the info is legit, but if Monday lunchtime arrives and there's still only one site with the info, we'll have to backtrack on this one too. Let's hope not!

Oh god, it's not gonna be one of those liquid phones?!

Wouldn't his prediction have been roughly inline with Note launching? Arguably a second flagship?
Isn't this roughly 6 months from the Note come to think of it.

i just hope there isn't a massive delay between the "launch" and the actual release...

I'd put money on the UK launch date being in May.

Sounds like they got ics working now then, unless going for lesser option and shipping with gb as just can't wait any longer

Treab  Apr. 16, 2012 at 18:25

Samsung, trolling...never ;)!

Nah, but I do reckon it won't be called the SGS3. It could just be "The Samsung Galaxy".

Sounds like it. No way will it ship with GB, the reviewers and media would rip it to shreds, even if they promised an update.

Introducing the Samsung Universe. The best phone this side of the galaxy...oO

matt101101 / MOD  Apr. 16, 2012 at 19:13

Samsung Andromeda; the "next" galaxy.

SpeedyG  Apr. 16, 2012 at 19:18

Actually space themed or not, it's quite possible the new phone could be the flagship of a new series as it goes away from their successful galaxies. Fancy them to bring something and more afterwards to counter the One series as well as the upcoming phones by other manufacturers and Apple iPhone 5 off course.

Decision time for me then. I either sell my iPhone 4S now and then get this or I hold on to my 4S for now and then get a Windows Phone 8 mobile (which I want more at the moment) later on in the year, hmmm...

Why what do we know about WP8?

Hope Samsung get this right
