Yes, the speculation is finally over: Samsung has finally confirmed a launch date for its next big Galaxy superstar, with Dutch site Tweakers.net revealing that the grand launch will take place in London on May 3.
We choose our words carefully, because the invite doesn't actually mention “S III” (or S3, for that matter) anywhere at all, leading us to wonder: does Samsung have a name change in mind?
Potential Samsung Galaxy S III launch dates have been coming thick and fast practically since Eldar Murtazin made the frankly mental prediction of autumn last year.
But each fresh hope has been raised, and dashed, in turn, and we're now into the second half of April, still with no Galaxy S III. But we do now finally have some news.
The invite in question contains the usual Samsung Mobile Unpacked branding, but beyond that simply states “come and meet the next Galaxy”. Now obviously the Galaxy S III is a big enough deal that Samsung doesn't have to say more than that, but there is another possibility: that Sammy could have decided to go with a different name altogether.
We'll find out soon enough, it seems.
One last word for now: we've jumped on this fairly quickly, so at this stage we've only got the single report of a single website (a Dutch site, no less) having received an invite. We're assuming the info is legit, but if Monday lunchtime arrives and there's still only one site with the info, we'll have to backtrack on this one too. Let's hope not!
