Samsung Galaxy S III Mini: the evidence grows

Samsung Galaxy S III Mini: the evidence grows

You may recall Lewis' musings last week about the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini believed to be the subject of a Samsung press event in Germany on Thursday.

Well, now the mini-S3 has popped up on a Swedish online retailer's site, suggesting the rumours are on the money and Sammy's latest Galaxy handset is just days from launch.

The original release, translated from German, managed to use a lot of words to say very little, rolling out gems like “a small sensation gets a great outing” and “experience why small will be the new big”.

Scandinavian site NetShop, however, has added some structure to the whole thing, listing four variants of the Galaxy S III Mini, or the GT-I8190 if you're into your unintelligible model names.

If the info is correct, the S3 Mini will emulate its big brother by launching with a choice of white or blue colour schemes, and with or without an NFC chip on board. SIM-free prices are quoted at £345 for the NFC-capable version, or £335 without.

So will this be the main event on Thursday? Could well be. But it remains to be seen exactly how the Galaxy S III Mini will take its place in Samsung's groaning Galaxy line-up. It's also hard to see exactly what about the GT-I8190 makes it worthy of its name – even the “Mini” part itself is a little perplexing, as a 4in display hardly qualifies as small.

So many questions – but hopefully we'll have some answers before too long.

If it rocks all the SGS3 specs in a 4-incher, that'd be something... otherwise, they might just call it anything.
Most likely, Touchwiz is going to be the only thing that connects this offering to the SGS3 - well, and greed :p

That means it's a lesser model than the S2 and Galaxy Nexus then, yes?

Seems like its confirmed, and samsung seem to have "got it"

"That would give the company a high-end smartphone with an iPhone 5-esque form factor for folks who don't want to wedge the original 4.8-inch model into their pockets"

I hope this takes off in this case and encourages manufacturers that the rush for the biggest screen is not the best direction to be going (heres a hint, BATTERY BATTERY BATTERY)

3681 WITHOUT NFC or 3577 WITH NFC.... is it just me or is that the wrong way around...?

And if not, why have bitter wallet translated it as so

"quoted at £345 for the NFC-capable version, or £335 without."

It will appeal to me anyway.

I see the Galaxy S3 mini has been launched and although its the rumoured 4" it appears to also be a cut down on specs with a dual core processor.

In two minds about this, I havent yet seen an app that has convinced me that quad cores are essential in Android (no video edting apps for example) but it does grind my gears that people wanting a smaller smartphone than the huge 5" slabs that are coming out now are being treated as second class citizens (from a specs point of view)

What an EPCI FAIL by Samsung.... a dual core processor..... this phone will be worse than the Galaxy S2 and twice the price... why bother?

Now I'm disinterested.
