No Samsung Galaxy S IV before May. And has it ditched the home button?

No Samsung Galaxy S IV before May. And has it ditched the home button? We’ve had more than our fair share of iPhone 5S rumours of late, but today it’s time to look at 2013’s other big smartphone release.

We’re mashing a couple of Samsung Galaxy S IV stories together here. For starters, we’re hearing that it won’t be released before May, while a second serving of juice delivers a purported Samsung Galaxy S IV “press shot”. Ahem.

With regards to the Samsung Galaxy S IV release date, we’re looking to – who else? –  Samsung Lebanon.

A Facebook user was told by the Lebanese: "The Galaxy SIV won't be released before May 2013,” before later clarifying: "What we said is only trivial since all Galaxy S series are released between late April and early May, yet there's no way for anyone to know the exact release date :)"

To be honest, we don’t put too much stock in such thingies. The chaps manning these social networking positions are often no more in the know than you and I.

Indeed, Samsung USA told TechRadar: "We do not comment on rumors or speculation." So there is no official line at the moment. Probably.

Having said all that, it’s expected that the Samsung Galaxy S IV will be shown off behind closed doors at CES next week.

Finally, as you can see at the top of the page, there’s a purported Samsung Galaxy S IV press shot kicking around - leaked by an "insider at Samsung".

The main thing to note (albeit saltily) is the lack of a Home button; the elongated display suggests we should maybe expect on-screen buttons.

Unless, of course, the Samsung Galaxy S IV press shot is a load of mince. Who knows?

I still fail to see the need of having a physical home button that wastes that could of been screen..

Because they stick the buttons on the display, which also wastes space?

There an no well-known devices currently on the market which have such a small bottom bezel they couldn't have had a nice, physical home button. If this picture turns out to (somehow) not be fake, that'll apply to this phone too, there's plenty of space for the usual Samsung arrangement of buttons.
