Is the Samsung Galaxy S2 still the best smartphone out there?

Do you think the Samsung Galaxy S2 is a better option than the Samsung Galaxy Note, Motorola RAZR, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, iPhone 4S...

Better than (imo)

Galaxy Nexus (no expandable memory screen better but has bugs)
Iphone 4s (minor upgrade of an 18 month old phone... must try harder apple.)

Maybe equal to..

Razr (i know its an opinion... have heard screen isnt as good and it does have a built in battery but battery life is supposed to be very good and has expandable memory and 16gb built in.. plus it could be unique...)

Worse than

Galaxy Note (more powerful hardware huge hi-res screen bigger battery and 16gb built in with an expandable memory slot...)

LET THE FANWARS BEGIN.

What do you mean, "still"? :p

Well, most Galaxy Nexus reviews I dipped into concluded that the SGS2 is probably the better device. I guess, "best Android smartphone" might be the more appropriate phrasing ;)

well what else is their janny ;) i mean who wants a windows/nokia phone ;)

AhmadCentral  Nov. 24, 2011 at 12:42

Agree with Treab 100%.

The only phones that can be better or equal to the S2 is the Note and Razr. Razr had to compromise a bit on the look and design though, its rather tall and wide + no removable battery is the only downside. Note is just a bigger S2 with a bigger battery and screen res. Its a great phone but some people might find it too big.

These two phones (maybe Nexus) are probably the best in comparison to the S2.

I saw some geezer on the train last night with his Nokia/Windows phone on display. As soon as I whipped out my Sensation (oo-er) he put it away again so I couldn't really see how it behaved.

Jim988  Nov. 24, 2011 at 14:38

Its still on top, the RAZR's poor screen doesn't compare to the Galaxy S II's.

The note is argueable better but is ridiculously huge for phone usage.

The nexus is a little bit smoother, but other minuses such as Not as good camera(still solid, just..not as good), and no microsd bring it down a notch. I can safetly say when the Galaxy S II gets ICS in late jan or feb it will be the better smartphone (that's assuming no more come out, which is probably not true.)

HTC Sensation XE says Hi!

AhmadCentral  Nov. 24, 2011 at 15:05

XE is just a rebranded Sensation. The Sensation is a pretty poor phone in comparrison to the S2, processor isn't as good, 768mb ram compared to 1GB, only 1GB internal storage compared to 16GB (sense takes up most of it, RAM and ROM) , camera is pretty poor, sound quality is terrible and the screen isn't as good. Build quality is a bit iffy with the wi-fi death grip and dust under screen problems as well. Hey, its not a bad phone but its not quite high end imo. Design is good though.

Build quality iffy?
Deathgrip is a nonsense IMO. OK so memory is down but it doesn't and hasn't affected me in the least. Dust behind the screen... maybe in some instances but considering mine lives in my dusty pocket i'm yet to see any sign of ingress. Camera is pretty good actually (although yes the SGSII is obviously better). Sound quality is terrible through what? Certainly not the headphones or the call quality. Yes perhaps the external speaker isn't as 'hifi' but I certainly never listen to anything like that. Oh and the 1.5Ghz dual core is faster our the box than the Sammys 1.2.
Are you quoting from use or what you've read?

The last line is utter non sense, you need to learn some more about how processors work, since you clearly aren't very educated on that field.

More megahertz do not mean more speed, the exynos is faster than the snapdragon despite the 0.3ghz difference.

@Jim988
I think you should check the last line on your post before you get all high and mighty (0.3 Mhz?). I've been using my Sensation non-stop for a month now and haven't found anything that slows it down yet. Even HD flash videos work. Given that, a faster processor becomes irrelevant. The build quality of the Sensation is leaps and bounds ahead of the creaky Galaxy S II, the call quality is excellent and the WiFi death grip issue is nonsense. The Galaxy S II does have advantages but I wouldn't say its better than the Sensation XE.

Despite the typo, im still correct in what i am saying.

Yep, i have both a Sensation (work phone) and a Galaxy S2 (personal) and tbh i love the design of the sensation, (not a fan of the S2 design, but its easy to see where the S2 excels over the sensation). I used to run out of ram all the time on the sensation (custom rom fixed it) but i still think there is a death grip/build quality issue. I've seen a number of people with dust under their screens (thankfully mines ok atm) and the wifi death grip thing bugs me, it always goes down to one bar whenever i hold it in landscape, + walking into the kitchen leads to no wi-fi signal.

The processor + GPU is better on the S2, flash plays perfectly. Flash is good on the sensation but it gets stuttery after about 10 mins of constant playback. By sound quality i mean the external speaker and call quality. The speaker is pretty poor during calls. Voices can sound muffled when compared to the samsung or a motorola. Also the camera recording mic is terrible, when you play it back on a pc or the phone the recording is tinny and terrible.

Don't get me wrong, its a great phone. But the s2 beats it in nearly every dept.

I know more etc. and I am plenty well educated in this field thanks for asking. It is not utter nonsense as real in-use has proven to me. Thanks very much. :)

In YOUR opinion. I'm bored of this now.
Anyway, we should be bashing idevices not other Android phones :)

Shaneoc  Nov. 25, 2011 at 15:06

I have traded up from an S2 to a Galaxy Nexus. I have a pretty long history with Android phones so Im pretty used to the experience. Hardware wise, the S2 is incredible. Android ran really well on it but there were minor issues with Samsung's crapware on it TouchWiz launcher for instance is a joke. Overall, its the best phone running Gingerbread by a country mile though for the various features it offers. I have a galaxy nexus and its a very different phone. The hardware is reasonably good, its got a crap camera (front and back), a processor configuration that is questionable given competitor phones offerings, but what makes this phone is ICS, the new version of Android. Its incredible. When it lands on the S2, the S2 will still be the best Android experience available, until then, any phone running ICS would trump it. Only just though.

Summary: get the S2. Its got great hardware and will stand the future test quite well when ICS arrives.

Just read on Twitter Vodafone UK says that the Nokia Lumia 800 is outselling the SGS2 and the HTC Sensation!

What's wrong with Vodafone customers?

Treab  Nov. 25, 2011 at 21:35

your one of them?? plus that phone is brand new and the other 2 have been on sale now for 6 odd months... come back in 8 months voda and let us know if nokia sells 10 mil plus...

AhmadCentral  Nov. 25, 2011 at 21:49

I wish Nokia would have released the N9 in the uk and marketed that rather than the lumia. N9 has better features and a better OS imo.
