What's the best Android phone at the moment? Samsung Galaxy S5 or LG G3? Or something else entirely?

One word: Touchwiz. The G3 doesn't haz it, so what is your question?
I'd say the G3 is the more interesting and more attractive device. It happens to have features that my Android-disliking butt actually likes.
But "best"? Depends on your needs and wants, and, yes, your sense of what's bearable.

Yeah, depends on what you need but also really have to factor in price too I think.
LG G2 is only £275-£290 depending on colour/16 or 32GB. It's got amazing battery life too.
My personal opinion is to avoid the current wave of flagships and get the much cheaper versions that only came out 6 months prior to them.
If G2 doesn't fit your needs, like say need Waterproof and MicroSD then Xperia Z1 is £300.
Xperia Z Ultra can be had for a mind boggling £245.
Between S5 & G3 though, S5 has better screen (not in terms of resolution but in quality like colour reproduction etc), also the waterproofing, heart rate monitor etc. G3 has the edge on camera though.
Another alternative is the OPPO Find 7 which is around £380 which specs to match the G3
