Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 pops up on Amazon.de, costs a fortune

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 pops up on Amazon.de, costs a fortuneIt’s not uncommon for Amazon Germany to pop new goodies up for pre-order, like, ages before everyone else. The eagle-eyed gents at Netbooknews have spotted the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 on Amazon.de, and the price tag is enough to make a man weep. Ok, maybe a Samsung-loving man.

Amazon.de lists the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 (16GB) at a rather lofty €606.50. What’s not clear is whether or not that’s the 3G or Wi-Fi only model.

Those Euros convert to roughly £530 in the Queen’s money. Meanwhile, Samsung reckons the 16GB Galaxy Tab 8.9 will be $469 in the States. That’s around £290 to us, almost half the price quoted on Amazon.de.

Of course, we’re used to getting shafted when it comes to gadgetry, so we reckon the 16GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 will be closer to £530 than £290 when it lands here in the UK.

The Honeycomb-rocking Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is supermodel thin at 8.6mm, weighs 470g, and packs a 1GHz dual-core processor. Stay tuned for the official release date (possibly June-ish).

I think it's quite possible that this is the 3G model (makes sense to put that out first so early adopters pay full price).

If this is the case then let's compare:
iPad 2 with 3G: 600-800€
Galaxy Tab 8.9: 606€

So... "rather lofty", "enough to make a man weep" and "costs a fortune"? Those comments will be spot-on if this turns out to be a wifi-only model, but otherwise they're just pure hyperbole.
