Eyebrows were well and truly raised when Anymode’s Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 cover appeared online. To say that the accessory, called the Smart Case, bears a resemblance to Apple’s Smart Cover would be a colossal understatement.
Unsurprisingly, Samsung - already embroiled in a bitter legal battle with Apple over copycat claims - has now had the accessory pulled.
The Smart Case was shown in a range of pastel colours (sound familiar?), and could be folded to act as a media stand (sound familiar?) or to make typing easier (sound familiar?).
However, posting on Samsung Tomorrow, the official global blog of Samsung Electronics, the manufacturer has revealed that Anymode’s Smart Case was not in fact certified.
The post reads: “As a general practice, Samsung Electronics reviews and approves all accessories produced by partners before they are given the "Designed for Samsung Mobile" mark.
“In this case, approval was not given to Anymode for the accessory to feature this official designation. We are working with Anymode to address this oversight and the product has already been removed from the Anymode sales website. The product has not been sold.”
Er, it might be an idea for the Smart Case to lay low for a while. Just look at Apple the wrong way these days and you'll find yourself in court before you can say "iPad".
