Samsung goes rugged with Galaxy Xcover

Samsung goes rugged with Galaxy XcoverSamsung has announced its equivalent of the Motorola Defy, a decidedly rugged chap called the Galaxy Xcover. It’s built to absorb all sorts of punishment.

A press release from gives us the lowdown, and the Samsung Galaxy Xcover sounds like one tough dude.

The IP67-certified Samsung Galaxy Xcover is dust and dirt-resistant. You can dunk it in water up to one metre deep, and it’ll remain water-resistant for up to 30 minutes.

The scratch-resistant display measures 3.6in, and there’s a 3.2MP camera on the rear. On the OS side of things, it runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

No word yet on the processor, however. That’ll probably determine where the Samsung Galaxy Xcover stands on the smartphone ladder; dual-core face-puncher or modest muscle-man.

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover is expected to land in Germany in October. No word on a UK release just yet.

With only a 3.6inch screen and a 3.2mp camera, it's not going to be dual core is it, really? 1ghz single core max. with those specs.

may as well buy a Motorola Defy - they are down to 60%

Yeah, I agree, Defys are pretty cheap nowadays, and will be even cheaper by the time this is released. It's also a slightly worse phone than the Defy apart from the defy being FroYo and this being Gingerbread.
