Samsung schedules Unpacked event for March 14, prob’ly the Galaxy S IV

Samsung schedules Unpacked event for March 14, prob’ly the Galaxy S IVSamsung might be keeping a relatively low profile at this year’s Mobile World Congress, but it’s shaken things up with a seriously cheekily timed announcement.

Not to be outdone by potentially limelight-hogging rivals like Huawei, Samsung has fired out email invites for a New York-based Unpacked event on March 14. And we all know what that means, right?

Around a week ago, we were told that the Samsung Galaxy S IV launch would “definitely” go down on March 14, and that claim seems to have been bang on the proverbial money.

Indeed, one particular Unpacked poster rocks the tagline “READY 4 THE SHOW”. Get it? Samsung Galaxy S IV?

Rumoured Samsung Galaxy S IV specs include an octo-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, 4.99in display and Jelly Bean (Android 4.2), and – as I was saying at the weekend – something called Samsung Orb, which is, er, pretty much the same as Photo Sphere.

Getting back to Samsung’s apparent cheekiness, we’re learning – via Engadget – that Team South Korea is in fact handing out paper invites over in Barcelona.

It’s another slap in the face for the organisers of Mobile World Congress, with HTC having opted to launch its flagship HTC One at a separate event just six days before the Barcelona conference.

You're making even less sense than usual, Jan.

Yeah, they've been using the Unpacked moniker for years, man.

'Tis true, they have. I think it's meant to refer to unpacking a new device. Btw, is it just me that's not excited about the S4?

No, it's not just you.

Glad to hear it, I don't know why but it's just not grabbing my attention. Then again, neither did the S3.

They just didn't offer anything truly 'new' other than "more/bigger/faster".
Rooting my lady's new Galaxy Camera - or jailbreaking and tweaking my friend's iPhone 5 recently - has been miles more interesting than playing with two dozens or so "next big things" in the last 18 months.
The Note/2 have been the only 2 phones to at least try and make use of the powers they were given.
Heck, I'm almost tempted to buy a One so I can brag about the retro 4MP camera :p

Surely you still have ages left on your contract? The N3 will be out by the time you're due an upgrade.
