Samsung set for a super-sleek overhaul?

Samsung set for a super-sleek overhaul? We can’t say we’ve taken a huge amount of time to think about it before now, but that blue and white Samsung logo could probably use a fresh coat of paint. Are we outta line?

In any case, we’re hearing that Samsung is set to receive a sexy makeover, in an attempt to appear less Asian tech and more global chic. Y’know, more like Apple.

That’s the story according to an exclusive on Australia’s Channel News, with thanks to anonymous “sources in Asia”.

Scott Bedbury is tipped to be at the head of the project. Who he? He’s worked with the likes of Nike and Starbucks in the past, and is currently – among other things – a freelance brand consultant.

We’re told to say goodbye to that blue and white Samsung logo, and hello to flashy advertising linked to “lifestyle activities”. Sounds… great.

In other Samsung news (thanks, Sammyhub), the South Koreans are tipped to launch a Smart TV at CES 2013, running – wait for it – bada.

bada, of course, is/was a Samsung-developed smartphone operating system, appearing in a small range of Wave handsets and reportedly doing better than Windows Phone despite maintaining a ludicrously low profile.

CES 2013 goes down in early January. Stay tuned for a sexy new Samsung and bada-based TVs.

Thought they were wasting enough money on lawyers without springing more on this sort of thing

Knowing Samsung, they'll probably rename themselves Pineapple, use a new shiny logo and start using Helvetica and Myriad Pro in all their advertising.

Or they could do an apple and use another company's name for decades, have to payout several times after losing several lawsuits, all after reneging on the original settlement.

@eddyday yep they could also increase their margins by making the outside of their devices prettier whilst lowering the spec of their computers, just like Apple. And then they could tell everyone it doesnt need a high spec because of the amazing software. You'd think no one would believe them, but they would! Its a great trick!

You mean like what Apple has already been doing for its entire existence?

So far

Apple copied Apple Corp's name and logo (the Beatles music company)
Apple copied Cisco's iPhone name
Apple copied the LG Prada for the iPhone
Apple copied Jeff Han's multitouch technology
Apple copied Kane Kramer's iPod design
Apple copied Mirror World's Coverflow idea
Apple copied Xerox's GUI idea
And more

Apple is a serial copycat and thief who pretends everything they copy or steal was their own idea.

Just got told to pay out for facetime infringing in the US

And the Motorola claim.

I really think that the decision to spin their statement on the website following the UK case defeat was a very dumb move by Apple, borderline contempt plus it sets a precedent for their behaviour and respect for the court in their inevitable future cases.

Suspect they'd be hoping to not get same judge(s) again for starters
