With the twenty-odd patent disputes currently being fought across the globe, it’s easy to forget that Apple is still one of Samsung’s biggest clients – second only to numero uno Sony.
As a result, Apple’s iGadgets are full of Sammy components. The ironing is delicious (a million bonus points if you get the reference).
It’s not exactly the easiest thing to change suppliers on a whim, as much as Apple might like to, and as such the bizarre Sample/Apsung relationship looks set to continue for the foreseeable future.
Indeed, an anonymous source has been telling the Korea Times that Samsung will provide the A6 chip for the iPad 3.
Mr Anonymous said: “Apple has been in talks with Samsung over shipment of its A6 quad-core mobile processor (AP) chips to be used in the next iPhone. It appears that Apple clearly has concluded that Samsung remains a critical business partner.
“Samsung Electronics will apply its advanced 28-nanometer processing technology to produce qualified A6 mobile APs. TSMC will provide customized chips with designs from Apple, however, the volume will be very small.”
After the iPhone 5 debacle, I’m officially taking all iPad 3 stories with a generous pinch of salt. This one ain’t too far fetched though, so maybe just a sprinkle.
