Samsung has several unofficial mottos, including “One size doesn’t fit all”, “More is more”, and most recently: “Big is best”. Yeah, I just made those up, but they’re clearly evidenced in Samsung’s considerable smartphone and tablet output.
In 2014, the South Koreans, who arguably started the whole “phablet” thing in 2011 with the Galaxy Note, promise to churn out several devices in the 5-6in range, alongside tablets as big as... wait for it... 20in.
Without naming anything specifically, the big guy says Samsung will aim to solidify its market dominance in the 5-6in sector in 2014.
Of course, Apple is tipped to move beyond the 4in smartphone mark for the first time ever, possibly launching two big iPhones this year: one at 4.7in, one at 5.7in. As such, it makes sense that Samsung would want to bolster its 5-6in defences with an army of devices.
As for tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Note/Tab Pro 12.2 tablets raised a few eyebrows at CES 2014 earlier this month, but the South Koreans will go even bigger later in the year.
The big boss promises “a new tablet category” for business, welcoming 20in tablets with “high resolution” displays. Not exactly a “new” category, but interesting nonetheless.
Expect Samsung to continue its gadget spamming ways at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 at the end of February.
