Can i sell a phone that's still under contract?

I want to leave my contract early and wondered if I could sell the phone SIM free and use the money to pay off the contract? Is that allowed? Any advice appreciated :)

Grey area, best not to, IMO.

Technically, you haven't bought the phone outright until you've paid off the last month of your contract.

Saying that though, as long as you're 100% sure you'll be able to continue paying the contract off for the remainder of it's "life", there's no possible reason the phone company would ever ask for their phone back, therefore no reason you couldn't sell it without them knowing/caring.

It is a common practice selling phones before their attached contract has been completed. Many of the high end phones on eBay will be unwanted contract phones. So if you do it you won't be in some shady minority that's doing something the rest of the world frowns upon, it's a pretty regular occurrence.

But, as I said to start with, if I were you, I wouldn't do it. Unless I was desperate for the cash, though then I'd be worried about not being able to pay off the contract too, so I still probably wouldn't sell the phone in case the network wanted it back if I failed to pay up.
