Got my SGS2 Today... Very, Very Happy!

Got around 16hrs use out of it so far. Its down to 13% battery remaining and 'Power saving mode' has kicked in. Had data on auto-sync every hour, WIFI for around 1hr, downloaded from market (via WIFI mainly) for roughly 1hr, added and removed wdigets (ave. two per screen).

Yeah, 16 hrs seems to be what I get on average now..., though 'mine' runs lite'ning ROM v3.0, and the devs are currently working on some fixes. Also, I currently use Shell 3D which uses whopping amounts of RAM and battery...

Lite'ning ROM updated to version 3.2 today/late last night.
So far very stable. Battery good.
Very easy to flash with Odin, also.

Yeah I am going to mod the SGS2 when I get some time. Been busy last week with a wedding and in-laws visiting from abroad. I dont mind if the ROM has stability issues, as long as it doesnt degrade the battery life.

One thing though - you posted a link to an extended battery case. Do you know anywhere thats selling it yet? Or something similar.

Good question.
Will have a look ;)

By the way: re when you have the time:
Lite'ning ROM takes 10 minutes to do. It's prerooted and it keeps all your apps and settings intact ;)

2600 mAh battery for Samsung Galaxy SII $30

litle update: upgraded to lite'ning rom 4.1 last night. seems to have improved battery life a bit. and definitely sticks to signal better than original rom or 3.2...

amazed by the process - very easy and fast. all settings and apps restored after reboot. and the black-themed market app is a lot nicer, too.

Jan, we'll make an Android fan out of you yet.....

Been playing with configuration of the phone (i.e. installing different apps, trying different profiles) and I got over 20hrs out of the SGS2.

Anyone know if you can download an app that provides profiles (like the good old Nokia/Symbian).

JanSt / MOD  Jul. 26, 2011 at 12:45

Nope :p

That SGSII is a present for someone gadgetly chalenged... I'm just setting it up - well, and playing it to death hahaha

Waiting for a few bugfixes for my Nokia E6 - the keypad lite issue was getting annoying. So, I'm kind of between handsets.
In fairness though, the Samsung Galxy SII is rather tempting. Shame it doesn't run Symbian ^3 or meego hahaha

shuwaz  Jul. 26, 2011 at 12:47

I got sick of the E6 after a week!

JanSt / MOD  Jul. 26, 2011 at 12:51

I haven't tried it, but Profiles sounds like it

@shuwaz: Try Juice defender.
I got myself the HTC Sensation last week. Nearly got the SGSII but..... it didn't feel solid enough to me. The Sensation and latest versions of Sense are just fantastic to use. More out of the box functionality than ever before (even got an app killer builtin). I was getting 16-18 hours use out of it but with Juice Defender it tells me i'm getting 1.22x the battery life and after a relatively quiet weekend it lasted more than 48 hours.

Jan: Do all the lite'ning ROMs have a blue theme? Can you change it?

IMO the SGS2 feels slick and is so light... The SE Xperia Arc is what you call going too far when it comes to solidity.

I was considering the HTC Sensation but all the HTCs seems to have a poor speakerphone.

I tried Juice Defender on my other HTC but it didnt seem to make that much difference. If I use the SGS2 minimally I get two days easy.

JanSt / MOD  Jul. 26, 2011 at 13:06

yes, theme is blue, butt very subtle, really. I'm not on Broadband today. I'll upload screenshots tomorrow if you want.
Also, for lite'ning ROM 2.1 and below there are themes on XDA - black'n'white, green and red methinks.
Use link above and scroll to bottom of 1st post. There's a link to the themes where you,ll find photos.

I have to agree - the Htc Sensation definitely feels sturdier. But as shuwaz said, the SGSII is definitely a step up from the flimsy Sony ErrIcsson Arc or the original Galaxy. I put a CaseMate case on 'my' SGSII, and oops, I dropped it a couple of times with zero damage...

I learned my mistake from the HTC Desire Z last year. Bought it and thought... I never drop phones, I never dropped my XDAs, Nokias (N95, E71), iphone, etc. But low and behold I dropped the HTC DZ a few times and it left nasty marks on the housing. This time round I put a screen protector and tire grip case on straight away (I bought them before hand). Typically I havent dropped the phone yet but its only been a week or so.

Did I mention I love my phone? I havent been this pleased since I had the E71.
