Sky+ app update: control your Sky+ box with your iPhone

Sky+ app update: control your Sky+ box with your iPhoneIs “fighting over the remote” a metaphorical thing? I can’t recall ever actually engaging in battle for control of the TV. But maybe that’s just me.

In any case, BSkyB has updated its iOS app, allowing users to control their Sky+ boxes with their iPhones. Excellent.

Sky+ version 4.2 (er, nothing to do with Jelly Bean) introduces the remote control function previously found on the iPad app. About time.

With remote control, you can swipe to rewind/fast-forward, tap to pause/play, swipe up and down to change channels, or pop channel numbers straight in.

There’s also Planner Management, allowing you to, er, manage your Planner. Specifically, you can view content by genre, delete programs and set series links, all without interrupting your on-screen viewing.

Other features of Sky+ 4.2 include a new TV guide, improved navigation, and improved search functionality.

The Sky+ app is available for free from the App Store. Similar functionality is expected to make its way to the Android equivalent shortly.

While I understand dev's going for iOS for "paid" apps (more turnover on the appstore). Why would they not go for the largest market with free apps?

Maybe easier, maybe they have iphones themselves...

iphone is easier to do because you only need to concentrate ona very limited number of handsets, it's more of a challenge on android because of all the different hardware, screen sizes etc
But it's doable and here's hoping it will be done soon!
