iPad owners finally got their own version of the Skype app recently, and iOS is getting even more Skype loving now in the form of the Skype WiFi app.
Skype WiFi was formerly known as Skype Access, and offers Wi-Fi goodness via 1 million global hotspots, including hotels, airports, train stations, bars and restaurants.
Skype suggests that Skype WiFi is perfectly suited for travelers, offering a cost-effective per-minute method of accessing the internet, and avoiding the need for data roaming.
Prices start at 4p/min (being deducted from your Skype credit), and you’re only charged for the time you’re connected. There aren’t any upload or download restrictions.
Skype WiFi is compatible with iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches running iOS 4.1 or above with multitasking. It’s available for free from the App Store.
In celebration of the new app, the service will be free from Saturday 20 August 00:00 till Sunday 21 August 23:59 BST for a maximum of 60 minutes (across 4 x 15-minute sessions).
