The Skype app for Windows Phone has finally dropped the Beta from its name, and is now known as Skype for Windows Phone – Gold Version. Despite the fancy new name, it’s still free to download from the marketplace.
Good news for Windows Phone peeps, but not so much if you’ve got your eye on the imminent Nokia Lumia 610.
Skype for Windows Phone – Gold Version introduces a handful of new features and bug fixes, such as video calling in portrait mode and support for 18 different languages.
However, scanning down the ‘Known issues’, it seems that Skype for Windows Phone – Gold Version won’t be compatible with Windows Phone Tango.
A note under ‘Device support’ reads: “Your Windows Phone requires a minimum of 512MB of memory to install and use Skype.” Windows Phone Tango, as you know, will reduce the minimum specs to include 256MB of RAM.
Microsoft recently detailed a number of other limitations of Windows Phone handsets with 256MB of RAM. Bad times.
