What's the best smartphone out before Christmas?

What's the best out of the HTC Sensation XE, Motorola RAZR and Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

On paper, I would say the RAZR is the best all-rounder, but whether its specs translate into real-world performance remains to be seen.

Hello, Blizzard, did you hit your head? (_;)
iPhone 4S

Agree with Blizzard that RARZ is coolest right now. Samsung and HTC have better software than Motorola. Moto is known to release buggy and unstable phones, which destroy user experience. If RARZ is bug free it's a buy. Otherwise, my recommendation is Sensation, followed by Nexus.
Reason why HTC would be better is that XE with ICS is better than Nexus.

Yes I did, don't worry normal service will resume shortly.

Galaxy Nexus I would put top. Stock android is much nicer experience then skins (espically the Motorola skin) and being the google phone will mean you will get updates first before any other phone (months before)

RAZR is getting pretty poor reviews in the states.

Seems pretty good to me here

I've heard bad things about the RAZR's PenTile screen and how it feels to hold...

The Samsung Galaxy s2 is a cracking phone which is due the ICS update within the next few months.

I wouldn't buy a phone in the HTC Sensation family if you're looking for a core phone. The speaker/call quality terrible and the radios are pretty bad. Plus the camera isn't all its hyped up to be. But as an all round phone it's pretty good. Has all the typical features you see on high end phones. + Upgrade to ICS soon.

The Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Nexus are pretty good phones in the call quality/camera dept. Getting ICS so its a good buy.

Razr is an excellent phone, epecially in the call quality dept. Nothing can beat Motorola Crystal talk tech. Downside is the desig, the Razr may be thin, but its large and feels a bit cheap. Its a good buy though if you like the design/feel. Getting ICS soon but who knows if it actually will in the UK.

Sony Erricson Xperia Arc S has an amazing design, not an amazing spec sheet though. But it'll still do everything you want it to. Not sure about call quality as i haven't tested myself but i've heard its pretty good. Not a phone if you want the best of the best as its already outdated. ICS coming soon though.

iPhone 4s is an excellent buy as well, good build quality and great support from apple. Has 2 antennas which is a plus. Although i have heard some negative feedback about dropped calls and people not geting signal anywhere.

IMO, Razr, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Nexus & iPhone are the top smartphones to get this christmas. I'd also recommend the Atrix 2 if it was out in the UK.

Disagree with all the above.
Call quality is just fine. Radio is very good, Camera while maybe not quite up there with the Sammy's is pretty darn good actually. But then I actually own one...

Ok, i take your point that the call quality is not terrible, but when you compare it to other phones such as nokia, samsung or motorola the call quality of the HTC seems very poor in comparison. I have both a Galaxy S2 and a Sensation and i can tell the difference like night and day.

@Matt
The wi-fi radio is much weaker than my old nokia and my new S2. And yep i know about the deathgrip issue, but this is without even touching the phone. Maybe its just my router though.

The Sensation's radio (I assume you mean cell not FM), is better than the SGS2's by a long way, in the signal and wifi departments.

CTPAHHIK  Nov. 18, 2011 at 09:46

I would take Sensation over SG2, but that just my opinion. I would also take Sensation over RAZR, if they are in same price range. I would not buy a Motorola phone, if it does not have a stable custom ROM.
Only HTC and Samsung have usable stock software. Every other manufacturer is far away playing catch up.

Agree with mrew's point about never having any problem with signal or call quality on the Sensation.
