What makes a smartphone "HD"?

What makes a smartphone "HD"? Is it purely resolution, or does PPI play a part?

Purely resolution, 720p+ is HD (never was quite sure why the HTC Desire HD or HTC HD2 had "HD" in their names).

Merely as it was a buzzword they could abuse and get away with I guess.

Yeah!!! Thus "Hopes Dashed"! So, someone comes along and makes WinMo 6.5 usable and attractive, and what do Micro$haft do? Ditch it; ban skinning; file access etc etc.... Meanwhile, the HD2 probably still outsells most WP devices; and as of today it's very hard not to call Nokia totally and utterly f*cked...
